I’ve stayed at a lot of places around Sydney Airport, and honestly, most of them feel like afterthoughts – you know, those generic boxes where you crash before a flight. But Meriton Suites on Coward Street is actually something different. Walking into the lobby, there’s this immediate sense that someone put real thought into the design. The space feels modern but warm, with these floor-to-ceiling windows that let in all this natural light, and the staff at check-in were genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions.
What really got me was the suite itself – I mean, it’s not just a hotel room with a tiny desk shoved in the corner. You get a proper living area with a full kitchen that you’d actually want to cook in, complete with decent appliances and granite countertops. The bedroom’s separated from the living space, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how many “suites” just give you a glorified studio. The bathroom’s got this rainfall shower that’s honestly better than what I have at home, and there’s a washer and dryer tucked away (total game-changer if you’re staying more than a night or two). From my window on the eighth floor, I could see across to the airport – close enough that you can hear the occasional plane, but it’s more of a distant hum than anything disruptive.
The location’s pretty clever when you think about it. Mascot’s not exactly trendy, but you’re literally five minutes from the airport by car, and there’s a shuttle service that runs regularly. Plus – and this is something I didn’t expect – you can walk to Mascot Station in about ten minutes and be in the city center in twenty. The surrounding area’s got this interesting mix of old industrial buildings and new apartment blocks, with a handful of decent cafes and restaurants within walking distance. There’s a Woolworths practically next door, which is perfect for stocking that kitchen. Parking’s included, which saved me about forty bucks a night compared to city hotels, and the garage is actually spacious enough that you don’t have to perform gymnastics to get out of your car. The pool area on the rooftop’s a nice touch too – nothing fancy, but it’s clean and usually pretty quiet, with decent views across the suburb. Look, if you’re after nightlife and buzzing street scenes, this isn’t your spot. But if you want space to spread out, modern amenities that actually work, and easy access to both the airport and city without the premium prices, it’s honestly hard to beat.
