Avonmore On The Park Boutique Hotel
You know what caught me off guard about Avonmore On The Park? The moment I walked up The Avenue, I realized this place actually lives up to its name – there’s Centennial Park literally right there across the street, and I mean *right there*. Not some marketing exaggeration where “parkside” means you can squint and maybe see some trees. The hotel sits in this lovely federation-style building that feels like it belongs in the neighborhood, honestly more charming than those glass tower hotels you see everywhere else in Sydney.
The boutique thing isn’t just a label they slapped on either – there’s only about 20 rooms, so it feels intimate without being cramped. My room had these gorgeous high ceilings (you know, the kind that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual character) and the staff genuinely seemed to remember my name after the first day. I stayed here during a weekend in spring, and I have to say, waking up to the sound of kookaburras from the park instead of traffic was pretty magical. The rooms are well-appointed – nothing super flashy, but everything works properly and the beds are legitimately comfortable. WiFi was solid too, which honestly can be hit or miss even at four-star places.
What really sold me on this spot was the location, though I don’t think most tourists realize how perfect it is. You’re a ten-minute walk to Coogee Beach if you want to escape the Bondi crowds, and Randwick village has some seriously good cafes and restaurants that locals actually frequent. The Light Rail stop is close enough to get you into the city center in about 20 minutes, but you feel like you’re staying in a proper Sydney neighborhood rather than some tourist bubble. Parking was included, which – if you’ve ever tried to park near Sydney’s eastern beaches – you’ll appreciate more than any fancy amenities. The only minor thing I’d mention is that weekend mornings can get a bit lively with families heading to the park, but honestly, I found that energy kind of endearing. For an 8.9 rating, this place earns it through those small touches that make you feel like you’ve discovered something special rather than just booked another hotel room.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
