So I stumbled onto the Phoenix at Palm View Collective on Billyard Avenue last month, and honestly? I’m still thinking about it. You know how Potts Point can feel a bit… intense sometimes with all the backpacker hostels and late-night chaos? Well, this place sits just far enough from the madness on Darlinghurst Road that you actually get some peace, but you’re still a two-minute walk from everything that matters.
The building itself has this really cool industrial-meets-boutique vibe going on – I mean, it’s not trying too hard to be trendy, but there’s definitely thought put into every corner. The lobby has these massive windows that flood the space with light, and the staff actually seemed genuinely happy to see guests (rare in Sydney, let’s be honest). Check-in was smooth, no weird upselling attempts, and they knew their neighborhood well enough to give me proper coffee recommendations beyond the usual Starbucks nonsense. The rooms are what really got me though – clean lines, actually comfortable beds, and the kind of bathroom where you don’t have to do gymnastics to use the shower. The 9.8 rating makes sense when you realize they’ve nailed all the basics that other places somehow mess up.
What I loved most was how it felt like a proper base for exploring this part of Sydney. You’re practically around the corner from the Royal Botanic Gardens – perfect for morning runs before the tourists arrive – and Elizabeth Bay Road is right there when you need groceries or a decent meal that won’t destroy your budget. The neighborhood gets a bit lively on weekends (it’s Potts Point, after all), but the Phoenix has solid windows and I never had trouble sleeping. Parking’s always a nightmare in this area, but they’ve actually sorted something out for guests, which… well, anyone who’s driven in Sydney knows that’s worth its weight in gold. I kept expecting to find some major flaw – maybe sketchy wifi or paper-thin walls – but honestly, they’ve just done everything right without making a big show of it. For a four-star place, it punches way above its weight, and I’m already planning my next Sydney trip around staying here again.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
