I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Westside Motor Inn on Liverpool Road, I wasn’t expecting much. You know how it is with motor inns, right? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself has that classic Australian motel vibe from the outside, but once you step inside, you realize someone’s put real thought into making this work for modern travelers.

The location is what really makes this place shine, though locals probably already know this. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Ashfield train station – and I mean actually three minutes, not that inflated travel website nonsense. The train gets you into the city in about fifteen minutes, which honestly beats dealing with Sydney traffic and parking fees downtown. Plus, Liverpool Road has this great stretch of authentic Middle Eastern restaurants and cafes that you won’t find in the touristy areas. There’s this Lebanese place called Jasmin1 just down the street that does incredible fattoush – the kind of spot where you see the same families coming in every Friday night. The area gets a bit busy during evening rush hour (around 5-7pm), but it’s the good kind of busy, not chaotic.

What struck me most was how the staff actually seemed to care about the details. Check-in was smooth, and the woman at the front desk gave me genuine recommendations for breakfast spots nearby, not just the usual tourist traps. The rooms are clean and functional – I mean, this isn’t the Ritz, but everything works properly and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. The air conditioning runs quietly (thank god, because some of these older buildings can sound like aircraft engines), and there’s decent water pressure in the shower. Parking is included and actually adequate, which anyone who’s driven around inner Sydney will appreciate. The Wi-Fi held up fine for work calls, though I wouldn’t try streaming 4K movies or anything. You can hear the trains occasionally, but it’s more of a gentle rumble than anything disruptive – honestly, I found it kind of soothing after a while. The neighborhood quiets down nicely after 9pm, so you’ll sleep fine.

Look, this isn’t a luxury hotel, and it’s not trying to be. But for the price point and location, it’s exactly what you want – a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t drain your travel budget while keeping you connected to both the city and some genuinely good local experiences. The 7.6 rating feels about right to me. It’s the kind of place where you might extend your stay an extra night just because everything works smoothly and the location grows on you.

  The room was very clean and well organised. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to check in early and were able to leave our car on-site after check out while we saw the sights of Sydney. The motel is easy to get into and out of and busses and trains are so handy plus Wests club is just across the road. Suburb and thank you Rachel and team for being such great hosts. We will definitely be back again! 🙂
