The name’s a bit much – I mean, who calls their hotel a “sanctuary” without sounding pretentious – but the moment you walk in, you sort of understand what they’re going for. There’s this immediate sense of calm that hits you, which is honestly remarkable when you’re literally on Regent Street with all the foot traffic and city buzz happening right outside.

The location is actually perfect if you know Sydney at all. You’re about a two-minute walk from the Queen Victoria Building, which means you can duck out for coffee or groceries without dealing with the tourist crowds at Circular Quay. I loved being able to walk to Hyde Park in the morning – there’s something about having that green space so close when you’re staying in the thick of the city. The rooms themselves have this understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard. Good blackout curtains (thank god), and the beds are genuinely comfortable – not just hotel-comfortable, but actually restful. You know what impressed me most? The soundproofing. I was expecting street noise given the address, but honestly, once you close the windows, it’s remarkably quiet.

What really sets this place apart though is the staff’s approach – they’re helpful without being hovering, if that makes sense. Check-in was smooth, and when I asked about parking (which, let’s be real, is a nightmare in this part of town), they had actual useful suggestions rather than just pointing to the nearest overpriced garage. The whole vibe feels more like a well-run boutique spot than your typical business hotel. I stayed during what must have been a busy conference week, and the lobby never felt chaotic or rushed. There’s something to be said for a place that maintains its calm atmosphere even when it’s clearly full. The 9.5 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything works exactly as it should. If you’re looking for somewhere central without the corporate hotel feel, and you actually want to sleep well in the middle of Sydney, this is honestly your best bet.

  The appartment was lovely. Chippendale, next to Spice Alley but relatively quiet because it's locatet in a sideroad. Chloe and Jason as hosts very helpful und understanding, even when we where not punctually at the check in. 15 min to walk to Townhall. Perfect location for people who like it private and with all the good things a fully equiped home has in it. Thanks a lot to our hosts! When ever we come again, it will be your place!!!!

  Our stay at the Urban Gem Sanctuary was perfect for our Sydney adventure! The kitchen was fully equipped, and the cozy beds made it easy to relax after long days of exploring. Having both a washer and dryer was also incredibly convenient for our stay. We appreciated the tea and coffee provided, and the balcony was a wonderful spot to unwind and plan our activities. The location, just a short walk from Central Station, made getting to and from the airport and around the city super easy. Communicating with the hosts was seamless—they responded quickly and helpfully. We’d absolutely stay here again!
