Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to The Travertine Terrace on Harris Street – the name sounds a bit fancy for Pyrmont, you know? But the moment I stepped inside, I got it. There’s this lovely stone work throughout the lobby that actually lives up to the travertine name, and it feels warm rather than cold and institutional like some boutique places try too hard to be. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful (not just going through the motions), and they knew I’d probably want to know about the construction happening two blocks down on Miller Street – minor thing, but it shows they actually pay attention to what guests might encounter.

What really won me over was the location, though I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk to Darling Harbour, but more importantly, you’re in the heart of actual Pyrmont. The Woolworths is right there when you need provisions, and honestly, being able to duck into the Star City complex when it’s raining (which it does in Sydney) is pretty clutch. The rooms themselves are solid – not huge, but thoughtfully laid out with proper blackout curtains that actually work. I appreciated the little touches like decent water pressure and bathroom lighting that doesn’t make you look like you’re dying. The air conditioning runs quietly too, which matters when you’re trying to sleep with the windows closed against the occasional late-night revelers heading home from the casino.

You know what really sets this place apart though? The breakfast setup actually feels like they care about food, not just filling a buffet obligation. And the view from the upper floors – well, you’re getting glimpses of the harbour between buildings, which is about as good as it gets in this price range in this part of Sydney. The whole area comes alive around sunset when people are walking along the waterfront, and you’re close enough to be part of it but far enough back to have some peace. Parking is available underneath (for a fee, obviously – this is Sydney), and the light rail practically runs past your door if you want to zip over to Central Station or up to the fish markets. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals would actually recommend rather than just another tourist holding pen.

Reviews

  • Enjoyable and comfortable. – Samantha from Australia – 11 July 2025 (9/10)

    It was an excellent location for exploring without being right in the middle of the city. It was super clean and comfortable for my family and I to stay.

    What could be improved: Perhaps a compendium (either physical or digital) to tell us the nuances of the building e.g. where to put the rubbish as we couldn't find the red or yellow bins.

  • Overall a lovely stay in a cute suburb. Great communication with owner. Comfy homestay. – Emily from Australia – 24 June 2025 (9/10)

    We booked this little homestay for a short trip to Sydney with 4 adults and a toddler.
    * Great location – easily the best feature. Pyrmont is a picturesque historical neighbourhood. Easy walk to darling harbour and city. Longer trips – a bus stop right outside. Close to a woolies and a Coles. So many great places to eat around!! It shares a wall with a pub, but noise wasn't an issue when we were there (we were there for origin and a Friday night)
    * Communication with property owners was super prompt, we needed an extra set of keys and was able to be in contact within hours!
    * Modern styling
    * Beds super comfy!!
    * Ducted aircon that worked great – able to keep warm in winter!
    * WiFi and smart TV for streaming

    What could be improved: * Perhaps not the ideal setting for a toddler / family stay with small children – which is at no fault of the property. – very tall staircase that I was worried my girl might fall down. The upstairs doors locked from the inside and button pressing toddler could have locked herself in a room easily!
    * Very minor issues with cleanliness (stain on carpet / wall etc)
