Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Sydney hotels, and The Sky Garden honestly caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know how Olympic Park can feel a bit… well, sterile? Like it was built for events and then everyone forgot people might actually want to hang out there? This place somehow manages to feel warm and welcoming despite being right in the middle of all that concrete and steel.
The thing about staying here is that you’re actually getting the best of both worlds – you’re close enough to the city that you don’t feel stranded (the train station is literally a few minutes walk), but you’re not dealing with all the chaos of staying in the CBD. I mean, parking alone probably saves you fifty bucks a night compared to somewhere in The Rocks. The staff seem to get that most guests are either heading to an event at ANZ Stadium or using this as a base to explore Sydney without the city price tag, and they’re genuinely helpful about both. The front desk guy – I think his name was Marcus – actually drew me a little map showing the quickest way to walk to the station and which carriage to get on for Central.
What really sold me though was the attention to detail. The rooms have this sort of… I don’t know, thoughtful setup? Like someone actually considered how you’d use the space. The bathroom has enough counter space for your stuff (revolutionary concept, apparently), and the bed faces the window so you can actually see outside when you wake up. It’s not trying to be some boutique Instagram hotel, but it’s way more comfortable than those generic business places you usually find near transport hubs. The soundproofing is solid too – important when you’re near a major venue area where things can get rowdy on event nights.
Honestly, the 9.5 rating makes sense once you’re there. It’s not perfect – the elevator is a bit slow and the coffee machine in the lobby could use an upgrade – but it delivers on what matters. The housekeeping is thorough, the WiFi actually works (shocking, I know), and the whole place feels clean without that harsh chemical smell some hotels have. Plus, if you’re planning to hit up any of the Olympic Park attractions or catch something at Qudos Bank Arena, you’ll save a fortune on transport and parking by just walking. Even getting to Parramatta or the city is straightforward once you figure out the train connections.
The area comes alive during events, but it’s surprisingly peaceful otherwise. Perfect if you want to explore Sydney without staying in a tourist trap location where every coffee costs twenty dollars and you can’t move for selfie sticks. You’re ten minutes from Bicentennial Park if you want some green space, and there’s decent food options within walking distance – not just the usual fast food you’d expect near a stadium. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was coming back for another event or just wanted somewhere reliable that doesn’t feel like every other hotel chain.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
