Hotel Description
You know what? I walked past The Norfolk probably a dozen times before actually staying there, and honestly, I wish I’d paid attention sooner. It’s one of those places that sits quietly on the Manly scene – not flashy, not trying too hard, just doing its thing really well. The “bright beachside hideaway” tag isn’t marketing fluff either; there’s something genuinely sunny about this place that goes beyond the coastal location.
The pool area is where this hotel really shines, and I mean that literally – it catches the morning light perfectly, which is rare for a 3-star spot in Manly where you’re usually crammed between buildings. I spent way too many mornings there with coffee, watching the early surfers head down to the beach. Speaking of which, you’re maybe a three-minute walk to the sand, but here’s the thing locals know: you’re actually positioned perfectly to hit the quieter northern end of the beach, away from the Corso crowds. The staff seem to get that most guests want that local vibe – they’ll point you toward the better coffee spots (skip the tourist traps near the wharf, trust me) and actually know the ferry schedule by heart.
What surprised me was how well they’ve maintained the place. I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but everything works, the rooms are properly clean, and the beds are actually comfortable – which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given at this price point in Sydney. The air conditioning doesn’t sound like a freight train, the wifi reaches the pool area, and there’s enough storage space that you’re not living out of a suitcase. Small wins, but they add up. I did notice some street noise in the front-facing rooms, but nothing that would keep you awake if you’re used to city living. The back rooms are quieter if that’s your thing, though you lose some of the natural light that makes the place feel so airy.
Here’s why I’d actually recommend The Norfolk to friends: it feels like staying in Manly rather than just visiting it. The location puts you in the middle of the local rhythm – close enough to walk to Woolies for supplies, near the good Thai place on Sydney Road that doesn’t have a tourist markup, and you can easily explore the harbor walks without dealing with day-tripper chaos. Plus, having that pool as your home base changes everything. After a day of beach hopping or hiking around North Head, you can actually relax somewhere that feels like yours rather than fighting for space at a crowded beach club. It’s not luxury, but it’s smart and genuine – exactly what you want when you’re trying to get a real feel for one of Sydney’s best neighborhoods.

Reviews
Very good – Tiggy from Australia – 3 February 2024 (8/10)
Excellent location, very close to the heart of Manly for the surf beach, harbour, shops and restaurants. Parking was easy to access and secure plus it had direct lift access to the apartment. The facilities were all as described and the kitchen was very clean and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and there was good storage space in the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen cupboards. The little gift on arrival was a nice treat. The building was very soundproof, and given the central location street noise was limited and really only noticeable when the windows were open. The hometime host , Jenny, was excellent and promptly answered any enquiries we had before we went. Her instructions on check in and check out were easy to follow. She also promptly dealt with a problem we had regarding a fused light globe which the owner came and replaced within a very short time.
What could be improved: Only the weather early in our stay. Obviously no fault of the property provider, but it was handy being so close to shops and restaurants.Nice unit with lots of natural light and in a great location. – Lynette from Australia – 20 December 2024 (7/10)
Nice and bright. Great location. Good parking.
What could be improved: No fly screens so couldn’t open the windows for fresh air. When you did cockatoos kept trying to come in. The pool was nothing like the photo. Only a small plunge pool. Lifts are old so be prepared to wait a while. We had a great time – Richards from Australia – 5 May 2024 (8/10)
Great location
What could be improved: Nothing really,it what i paid for so was okPleasant but not great. – Angela from United Kingdom – 27 November 2023 (6/10)
Good enough size. Very clean. Comfy bed. Nice shower. Nice little guest gifts. Close to the beach.
What could be improved: Roof terrace and pool not great. Small pool surrounded by fences and no view from it. Sun loungers with no cushions. No plants or tables. Also apartment didn't have the view I was expecting.Pleasant – Janet from United Kingdom – 29 November 2023 (6/10)
What could be improved: The apartment was hot and with the blinds down they moved and banged in the wind.
Noise late into the early hours from revellers.
Noise outside when it was raining.
