Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “Sunny Apartment in Surry Hills,” I was expecting something pretty basic. But this place on Mort Street actually surprised me in the best way possible. You know that feeling when you walk into a space and immediately think “okay, I could live here”? That’s exactly what happened. The natural light streaming through those big windows (hence the name, I guess) makes even a gloomy Sydney winter day feel manageable, and during summer – well, you’ll understand why they called it sunny.
What really gets me about this spot is how it sits right in the sweet spot of Surry Hills. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from that amazing Ethiopian place on Cleveland Street that locals are always raving about, and the vintage shops along Crown Street are close enough that you’ll probably end up browsing them every morning on your coffee run. The apartment itself feels like someone actually lives there – not in a messy way, but in that “real person with good taste” way. The kitchen has proper knives (you know how rare that is in short-term rentals), and honestly, the bed is comfortable enough that I overslept twice. The bathroom’s compact but functional, though the shower pressure could be better – not terrible, just not amazing.
Here’s the thing about staying here: you’re going to feel like a temporary local rather than a tourist. The building’s pretty quiet most of the time, except for the occasional delivery truck in the morning, but that’s just city living. Parking can be tricky on weekends when everyone’s out brunching, but during the week it’s totally manageable. The host was actually responsive when I had questions about the heating (took me forever to figure out the thermostat), and check-in was smooth – none of that awkward waiting around nonsense. With an 8.2 rating and 4 stars, it’s hitting that sweet spot where you’re getting real value without breaking the bank. Sure, it’s not the fanciest place in Sydney, but if you want to experience Surry Hills the way people who actually live there do – grabbing coffee at the corner café, discovering that hidden bar everyone talks about, walking to the CBD when the weather’s nice – this apartment gets you there without the hotel markup or the pretentious vibe.

Superb – Kristie-anne from Australia – 17 May 2025 (9/10)
It was close to the SCG which is what we needed heading to the footy.
What could be improved: Location, price and desired look. The property was beautifully presented, clean and comfortable.Superb – Steve from United Kingdom – 29 May 2024 (9/10)
Perfect location. The neighbourhood is wonderful with lots of cafes, bars and restaurants but totally quiet at night.
Nice place. – Shaun from United Kingdom – 29 November 2023 (8/10)

comfortable, quiet, great location
What could be improved: was a bit hot, would be nice to have ceiling fans in both roomsLovely. – Rebecca from Australia – 17 February 2023 (8/10)
I loved this place. perfectly located for a night out.
What could be improved: There was only half a roll of toilet paper for 4 adults.Very good – Kristine from Australia – 15 May 2025 (8/10)
Location really fantastic, beds comfy enough, loungeoom a bit cold, just needs a bit more attention to decor. Otherwise a great stay for a family catch up
What could be improved: Loungeroom was sparce and uninviting. One lounge is not great for socialising. Could really do with attention like a lamp, another lounge chair and perhaps another nice piece of furniture. My dodgy feet didn't like the ups and downs on on the top floor level. Pillows were a bit lumpy or too soft. But otherwise a great stay here. ThanksSuperb – Rehab from Oman – 13 November 2024 (9/10)
Everything was good and taken care of.
What could be improved: 1. To move from the living room to the kitchen, you need to climb down and then up some stairs.
2. There is no eGreat for a short stay! – Jessamy from United Kingdom – 28 October 2024 (8/10)
great location, good water pressure and comfy beds, really liked the neighbourhood and the host was very quick to respond to any queries.
What could be improved: The facilities were a little lacking – there was very little worktop and storage space in the kitchen and minimal kitchenware, no salt/pepper etc. The bathroom was oddly set up and it would have been great to have a dryer. Lack of containers for recycling. A second key would also have been useful.Good – Alexandra from Australia – 29 July 2024 (7/10)
What could be improved: Very hard to open door
Lovely convenient stay – Charmaine from Singapore – 28 June 2024 (9/10)
Love the location! Near to public transportation and good food places. Love that it has enough space for our family to rest and lounge together.
What could be improved: The space heaters weren’t enough to warm up the whole place. I’m told that central heating for houses is not usual for Australia so I can’t fault the house for that.
