Hotel Description
You know what really got me about this place? The moment I walked into 78A High Street, I actually forgot I was staying in an apartment and not some boutique hotel. The terraced setup is honestly brilliant – you get these different levels that somehow make the space feel way bigger than it probably is on paper, and there’s this natural flow between the living areas that just works.
The location is seriously unbeatable, and I mean that without the usual travel-writer hyperbole. You’re basically a five-minute walk from Circular Quay, which sounds touristy but honestly becomes your lifeline for getting anywhere in Sydney. I’d grab my morning coffee from that little spot on Young Street (locals will know the one) and just wander down to the Opera House before the crowds hit – it never got old. The apartment sits right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but not dealing with the George Street chaos. Actually, the street itself is pretty quiet at night, which was a pleasant surprise given how central you are.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that you don’t expect from a rental. The kitchen actually has proper knives and decent cookware – not those sad, dull things you usually find in holiday apartments. The terrace levels create these cozy pockets where you can spread out, and the windows let in this amazing natural light that makes everything feel fresh. I spent way too much time just sitting with my laptop on the upper level, watching the city wake up. The Wi-Fi is solid too, which matters if you’re trying to get any work done. Check-in was surprisingly smooth – none of that awkward key-exchange dance you sometimes get with apartment rentals. The host clearly knows what they’re doing.
If I’m being completely honest, the bathroom could use a bit more counter space, and the building’s elevator is one of those vintage ones that takes its sweet time, but these are pretty minor complaints. The trade-off for being in this location at this price point? Totally worth it. Plus, there’s something charming about those old Sydney buildings once you embrace their quirks. You’re also right in the thick of the CBD, which means everything from the Botanic Gardens to the best hole-in-the-wall noodle joints on Dixon Street is within walking distance.
The 8.9 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s that rare combination of location, comfort, and character that’s actually hard to find in Sydney. I’d definitely book this again, especially if you want to feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it.
