Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about this place? The address alone tells you everything – 73 Windmill Street in Millers Point is basically heritage Sydney at its finest. I mean, this isn’t some cookie-cutter hotel; it’s actually a converted terrace house that somehow manages to feel both historic and livable. The moment you turn onto Windmill Street from George Street, you’re stepping back about 150 years, but in the best possible way.
The thing about Millers Point that most people don’t realize is how incredibly quiet it gets once you’re off the main drag. Sure, you’re literally minutes from Circular Quay (honestly, I timed it – four minutes walking), but the cobblestone streets here have this almost village-like feel that’s rare in the CBD. The house itself has that solid sandstone foundation you see all over The Rocks area, and inside, well – they’ve clearly put thought into keeping the character while making it actually comfortable for modern travelers. The rooms have these gorgeous high ceilings that probably saved my sanity during a particularly warm February visit, and the windows – some of them still have the original wavy glass that catches the light just right in the afternoon.
What really won me over was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere, not just photographing it. The kitchen setup is proper functional (I made coffee every morning and actually cooked dinner twice), the Wi-Fi doesn’t drop out every ten minutes like some places in older buildings, and – this might sound weird but it matters – the shower pressure is excellent. You’re basically living in a slice of old Sydney, but you’re not roughing it. The walk to Observatory Hill takes about two minutes if you want morning views over the harbor, and there’s something magical about having Walsh Bay right there when you want to wander along the water. Parking can be tricky on the street, but honestly, you probably won’t need a car much since you’re walking distance to everything that matters – the Opera House, Harbor Bridge, and all those tucked-away pubs in The Rocks that tourists usually miss. For a 3-star place, the 8.5 rating makes total sense; it’s not trying to be the Park Hyatt, but it delivers something you can’t get at those big hotels – the feeling that you’re actually living in Sydney, not just visiting it.

Great location, clean and spacious apartment.
What could be improved: As there is no heating, an extra blanket would have been nice for cool nights.Superb – Janelle from Australia – 16 April 2024 (9/10)
The convenient location to our work site, the size of the apartment and the range of devices available in the apartment.

What could be improved: There was no air conditioner and the fans provided didn’t have a cord long enough to place ithem in a useful position.Good – Matt from Australia – 9 January 2023 (7/10)

Little home away from home – Liana from Australia – 11 February 2025 (8/10)
The location was really lovely in the Rocks area. It was a a 10 minute walk to Circular Quay which connects you to the train, light rail and ferries as well as plenty of restaurants and shops looking out at the Harbour bridge and Opera House. The house was equipped with a kitchen and small dining table with two chairs. This was suitable for my partner and I who stayed for 5 days as we were able to cook breakfast every morning or store other food and snacks. The living room came with a TV that used antenna and a sofa. The bedroom had a closet with sufficient enough storage. The appartment is located on the second floor so you will need a bit of strength to carry your belongings up two flights of stairs. This appartment did not have a mind blowing view as the windows pointed towards another house but personally we were not spending the whole day looking out the window anyways. The natural lighting was really lovely though.
I did really appreciate the host's hospitality. I found that the instructions and information regarding the property where shared in a timely manner and were very detailed and easy to follow. The host was very friendly and easy to communicate with 🙂
What could be improved: It would have been nice if the TV was a smart TV which allowed the use of streaming services. The bed was quite firm but personally it did not effect the quality of my sleep. The bathroom does not have any counters so the only storage space is under the sink; we ended up utalising the washing machine as a counter space alternative. The seal on the bottom of the shower was also broken so the shower screen wobbled a bit.
The appartment does not have an air conditioning unit. It did come with a large stand up fan and a small little fan which my partner and I would move between the bedroom and living room and we did spot a small heater that was stored in one of the cabinets. We stayed in February where it averaged around 28 degrees celcius. Fortunately sitting in front of the fan was enough to cool us down but I can imagine on hotter days a fan might not be enough.
The lock for the main entrance would automatically lock super quickly which would then cause the main entrance door to not close at all or set off the lock alarm off. If it is possible to change the timing of the lock to allow for a couple extra seconds to get through before the lock starts turning would have been great, especially as guests are bringing in their belongings one by one.Old but well kept apartment. Very roomy and so close to the Rocks and Circular Quay. – Liz from New Zealand – 14 September 2024 (8/10)
Close to the old centre of Sydney. Easy to get to ferries and trains.
What could be improved: Carrying bags up 2 floors. Being kept out of the apartment till 3pm when we arrived in the city about 10am. More direct communication with the host is needed.Very good – Tony from Australia – 23 October 2022 (8/10)
