Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to this place on Windmill Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. This converted terrace house sits right in the heart of Millers Point, which honestly feels like discovering a secret pocket of old Sydney that most tourists completely miss.
The location is actually pretty brilliant once you get your bearings. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Circular Quay – I mean, you can practically hear the ferry horns from the front steps. But here’s the thing about Millers Point that I love: it’s got this village-y feel that’s completely different from the CBD chaos just across the harbor. There’s this gorgeous little park called Observatory Park literally around the corner where you can sit with a coffee and watch the bridge without fighting crowds. The streets here are all cobblestone and quirky angles – very Instagram-worthy if that’s your thing, but also just genuinely charming to wander around. Fair warning though, those historic streets mean everything’s a bit uphill, so pack comfortable shoes.
Inside, the house has that lived-in feel that vacation rentals sometimes miss. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Sydney real estate we’re talking about – but they’re thoughtfully set up with actual storage space and decent natural light. The kitchen’s properly equipped too, which matters if you’re staying more than a night or two (because let’s face it, eating out every meal in Sydney will bankrupt you). I appreciated little touches like having a proper coffee setup and not just those terrible instant packets. The Wi-Fi actually works well, which isn’t always a given in these older buildings, and the place stays surprisingly quiet given you’re in the middle of everything. The 7.7 rating makes sense – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid and comfortable with character that chain hotels just can’t match.
What really sold me on this spot was stepping out in the evening and realizing I could walk to the Opera House in one direction, the Rocks markets in another, and still feel like I was staying in an actual neighborhood rather than tourist central. There’s a fantastic little pub called The Hero of Waterloo just down the street – proper old Sydney pub, not a tourist trap – and the weekend markets at The Rocks are close enough that you can pop over for breakfast without it being a whole expedition. Parking’s typical Sydney nightmare, so definitely consider that if you’re driving, but honestly the location’s so central that you probably won’t need a car anyway. The whole area comes alive differently at night too – less business crowd, more locals heading to dinner, and those harbor views from the nearby walkways are pretty spectacular when the city lights start reflecting on the water.

Great location, clean and well presented.
What could be improved: Air con would be an enhancement.Great location and view but definitely room for improvement! – Debra from Australia – 12 November 2022 (4/10)
The location was fantastic with a great view of the Harbour Bridge, a short walk to Walsh Bay (a lot of stairs!!), The Rocks and Circular Quay. there area was quiet and very pretty with lovely historical homes, churches and businesses all around, including a restaurant and bar right next door, reputed to be haunted and with a fascinating past.
The building is lovely and it has a great history, apparently being one of the the first apartment buildings – if not the first – constructed in Sydney. Unfortunately this means there is no lift and there are three flights of stairs to the top floor – luckily I only had carry on luggage for my short stay. The stairs are wide, well made, safe and well lit, but they would be a problem for anyone with mobility issues.
The apartment is very spacious for a one bedroom and has been nicely renovated with good appliances in the kitchen and laundry. It is well presented with nice furnishings and a large screen TV.
What could be improved: There are a few shortcomings. The major and defining issue for me was the bed – I do like a firm mattress and have one at home however the bed in the apartment was dreadfully uncomfortable ☹️ It was like trying to sleep on a concrete slab and I would hesitate to stay there again if the mattress was not replaced or at the very least fitted with the a memory foam topper.
Smaller irritations were the TV not being a smart TV so no streaming services could be accessed, no reverse cycle air conditioning – the apartment was quite cold and the heater not up to the job – and the lack of a key to the balcony door.Exceptional – Andres from Australia – 14 June 2025 (10/10)
