Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Sydney, but this house on Windmill Street really caught me off guard – in the best way possible. I mean, when you hear “Millers Point,” you might think it’s some random neighborhood, but honestly? You’re basically living in Sydney’s most historic pocket, literally a five-minute walk from Circular Quay. The house itself sits on this quiet cobblestone street that feels like you’ve stepped back in time, which is pretty amazing considering you can hear the ferries coming and going throughout the day.
What really gets me about this place is how it manages to feel both grand and lived-in at the same time. The moment you walk in, there’s this beautiful old-world charm – we’re talking high ceilings, original floorboards that creak just enough to remind you of the history beneath your feet, and these gorgeous sash windows that frame views you’d pay premium for in any hotel. The kitchen actually works (shocking, I know, for a vacation rental), and I spent most mornings making coffee while watching the early commuter ferries cross the harbor. You know what’s wild? The Opera House is right there across the water, but from this angle it doesn’t feel touristy – it’s just part of your temporary neighborhood view.
The location is honestly what makes this place special, though the house itself definitely earns that 4-star rating. You’re tucked away on these historic streets where locals still live and work – there’s something magical about grabbing groceries at the little IGA on George Street and walking home past the old Observatory Hotel. The whole area gets surprisingly quiet after 9 PM, which I wasn’t expecting being so close to the CBD. Parking can be a bit tricky (it’s Sydney, after all), but there’s usually street parking if you’re patient, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t want to drive anywhere. The 431 bus stops right at the bottom of the street if you need it, though I found myself walking everywhere – the harbor foreshore walk is literally at your doorstep.
I’ll be honest, the place isn’t perfect – the hot water takes a minute to get going, and if you’re traveling with a lot of luggage, those stairs might give you a workout. But those are minor things when you’re essentially living in a piece of Sydney history. The house sleeps about six people comfortably, and there’s something really special about having your morning coffee in that front room, watching the city wake up while you’re tucked away in what feels like a secret corner of Sydney. That 8.8 rating? Yeah, it’s earned. This isn’t just accommodation – it’s actually living in Sydney for a few days, not just visiting it.

What could be improved: Shame it wasn’t air conditioned. A little hotGreat accommodation in a great part of sydney – David from Australia – 9 February 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: We couldn’t stay longerexcellent – Phil from Australia – 28 November 2024 (9/10)
Location was spectacular, and there was nothing wrong with the accomodation
What could be improved: The requirement so send through photo's with you licence seemed heavy handed an unessesary – made us feel like we had to prove or worthiness. Parking suggestion was for a carpark that no longer existed, so that was a bit annoying.Perfect central location for visiting Sydney! – Emanuela from Australia – 12 August 2024 (10/10)
The location is perfect to visit Sydney: next to the Rocks and 15 mins walking from the Opera House. Also, the house is very nice: it is at ground floor and when we arrived it was warm and well cleaned.
What could be improved: Nothing really, just some difficulties with the locker.Exceptional – William from United States – 19 November 2023 (10/10)
The location is perfect. You are a short 10 minute walk from a major (train/ferry) transport hub (Circular Quay) – a 10 minute walk from Darling Harbor and a 15 minute walk from outstanding shopping. There are 2 outstanding pubs steps from the front door. Multiple restaurants and coffee shops within 5 minutes walk. You can walk over Sydney Harbor Bridge in 20 minutes!
What could be improved: You have to make sure you read all the details when you book (I did not or I wouldn't be saying this). I assumed it was like all my other bookings before where I just showed up.Great location, clean and comfy – Kathy from Australia – 18 November 2023 (9/10)
The place is a great location, walking distance to everything and having the keyless lock was good when it worked.
What could be improved: Has some small issues with the lock + a few small things that require repairing but I advised the host who said it would be fixed.Superb – Bruce from Australia – 10 October 2022 (9/10)
Loved the location and size of the property
A fantastic comfortable base, ideally situated to explore Sydney. – Ann from United Kingdom – 13 April 2025 (8/10)
Fantastic central location , in a very historic area of the city, within 10 minutes walking distance of Circular Quay , the Opera House & Harbour Bridge, and many coffee shops & restaurants. The laudry area was a particular bonus for us having been travelling for several weeks , although the tumble dryer was a bit noisy
What could be improved: Being very picky , we could have done with a third chair at the main table , chest of drawers in one of the bedrooms , and somewhere to hang towelsGreat apartment with some minor issues. – Michelle from Australia – 24 January 2025 (8/10)
Location is amazing
Comfy beds
Clean bathroom with lots of products included
What could be improved: Smells like mould (very strong)
Cooktop not working – replacement cooktop was missing and it took a lot of communication to get it rectified.
