I mean, Vale Street itself is one of those quiet residential strips in Cammeray that most tourists never stumble across – which is honestly part of the charm. You’re tucked away from the chaos but still close enough to everything that matters.

The cottage has this lived-in authenticity that’s hard to fake. The stonework isn’t some Instagram-perfect facade; it’s the real deal with character marks and weathering that tells a story. Inside, whoever set this place up actually gets what travelers need – proper kitchen equipment (not just the bare minimum), decent water pressure, and thank god, blackout curtains that actually work. The bedroom’s compact but cleverly arranged, and the bed is surprisingly comfortable for what I expected from a heritage-style place. There’s this cozy nook by the window where I found myself having coffee each morning, watching the neighborhood wake up slowly. The Wi-Fi is solid too, which matters if you’re trying to work remotely or just want to research your next day’s plans without buffering every two seconds.

What really sells this place, though, is the location intelligence. You’re about a ten-minute walk to the North Sydney ferry wharf – and honestly, taking that ferry across the harbor beats dealing with traffic any day. The local IGA is right there when you need supplies, and there’s this excellent little café called The Grind around the corner that does proper flat whites (locals know it, tourists don’t). Parking can be a bit tight on Vale Street during weekday mornings when commuters are around, but evenings and weekends it’s fine. The neighbors are the kind of quiet, established crowd you want – no late-night party houses or construction drama. I stayed here during a particularly rainy stretch in autumn and actually enjoyed the cozy factor, listening to the rain on the roof while reading inside. That 9.8 rating makes sense when you experience it – it’s one of those places where the little details add up to something genuinely pleasant, not just passable.

  What could be improved: Just the check-in. I arrived after 10pm, which I had advised. It was very dark, I'd been told to look for number 6 but couldn't see where that was, nor find a legal/safe parking space. The host came out to help me on my second attempt to find it.

  A beautiful stone cottage with wonderful modern features. Had been very thoughtfully put together and was a really special place to stay just north of the harbour bridge. Lovely easy going hosts. My dog really loved it too.
