You know what struck me first about Hotel Steyne? The location is absolutely unbeatable – I mean, you’re literally on The Corso, which is basically Manly’s main drag leading straight to the beach. Like, step outside and you’re maybe a two-minute walk to the sand. The building itself has this classic beachside hotel vibe that’s been around forever (and honestly, it shows in some places, but not necessarily in a bad way). It’s got that lived-in character that a lot of the newer places just can’t replicate.
The rooms are decent – nothing fancy, but they’re clean and functional with that slightly retro feel that actually works pretty well for a beach town. Some of the rooms have ocean glimpses if you lean out the window just right, though don’t expect sweeping harbor views or anything. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night despite being right in the thick of things. The Corso can get pretty lively, especially on weekends when people are heading to and from the beach or hitting up the bars, but the hotel’s set back just enough that you’re not dealing with constant street noise. The staff was genuinely helpful too – they actually knew the area well and gave solid recommendations for places to eat that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots.
Here’s the thing though – this isn’t a luxury resort, and it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s more like a solid, reliable base camp for exploring Manly and the northern beaches. The breakfast is simple but good, and there’s something refreshing about a place that just does the basics well without trying to be something it’s not. You’re paying for that prime location and the convenience of being able to walk to Manly Beach, the ferry wharf, and all those little shops and cafes along the pedestrian mall. Plus, if you’re planning to explore other northern beaches like Freshwater or Curl Curl, you’re perfectly positioned. Parking can be a bit of a pain around here (welcome to Manly), but the hotel has some spots available. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s honest, unpretentious, and gets you exactly where you want to be without breaking the bank.
