Stanley Lane Residence Darlinghurst
You know what caught me off guard about Stanley Lane Residence? The name makes it sound like some grand old mansion, but it’s actually this sleek aparthotel tucked away on Yurong Street – and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work so well. I mean, Darlinghurst can be pretty intense with all the Oxford Street action, but this little pocket feels almost residential while still being right in the thick of things.
The building itself has this modern, no-nonsense vibe that I actually appreciated after staying in too many places trying too hard to be boutique-y. The rooms are more like proper studio apartments – you’ve got a kitchenette that’s actually functional (not just a mini-fridge and a prayer), decent counter space, and a living area that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. The beds are surprisingly good too, which matters when you’re dealing with the noise from the clubs on Oxford Street winding down around 3 AM on weekends. Double-glazed windows definitely help, though you’ll still hear some street activity if you’re a light sleeper.
What really sold me on this place was the location – it’s like having a cheat code for Sydney. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Hyde Park, which I used for morning runs, and the same distance to Museum Station if you need to get anywhere quickly. But here’s the thing locals know: you’re also right near that stretch of Crown Street with all the good cafes and restaurants that tourists somehow miss. There’s this Vietnamese place called Pho Pasteur about three blocks away that’s been there forever, and you can walk to Surry Hills in like ten minutes for dinner. The staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood too – they pointed me toward a bottle shop that was open late and mentioned which streets to avoid during the Mardi Gras parade (spoiler: avoid them all unless you want to party).
Parking is… well, it’s Darlinghurst, so don’t expect miracles, but there’s street parking if you circle around enough, and they can point you toward a couple of paid lots nearby. Check-in was smooth – they’ve got that keyless entry thing figured out, which is clutch when you’re arriving at weird hours. The whole place feels well-maintained without being sterile, if that makes sense. Like, the elevators work properly, the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the air conditioning actually cools the room down.
I’d definitely stay here again, especially for longer trips – having that kitchen means you’re not eating out every single meal, which your wallet will thank you for in a city like Sydney. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place you’ve ever stayed, but it nails the fundamentals while putting you right where you want to be. Plus, with an 8.6 rating, I wasn’t the only one who figured this out.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
