Hotel Description
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to SkyPark Oasis Retreat on Bennelong Parkway, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another high-rise apartment building. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t scream “luxury hotel” from the street. This place sits on the 13th floor, and once those elevator doors open, you’re hit with these floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the Olympic Park like it’s a living postcard. The two-bedroom setup actually feels like someone’s well-appointed home rather than a sterile hotel room – there’s a proper kitchen where you can make coffee without those terrible pod machines, and the living area has enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase.
The location is one of those “looks random on a map but makes perfect sense when you’re there” situations. You’re literally a five-minute walk from ANZ Stadium (well, Accor Stadium now, but locals still call it ANZ), which is brilliant if you’re in town for an event – no dealing with those nightmare crowds trying to get transport afterward. But here’s what surprised me: even when there’s a massive rugby match or concert happening, the building stays pretty quiet. The windows are solid, and being up on the 13th floor means you get the excitement of seeing all the action without the chaos. During the day, Olympic Park is actually this peaceful, green space where you can walk around the old venues and grab decent coffee at the cafes near the aquatic center. The train station is about a seven-minute walk – I timed it because I’m neurotic like that – and you can get into the city center in roughly 45 minutes, which honestly isn’t bad for Sydney.
What really sold me on this place was the little things that show someone actually cares about the guest experience. The shower pressure is fantastic (you’d be amazed how many expensive hotels mess this up), there’s proper blackout curtains so you can actually sleep past sunrise, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing. The kitchen comes stocked with actual plates and glasses, not plastic nonsense, and there’s a washing machine – which is a godsend if you’re staying more than a few days. The building has secure parking, which in Sydney is basically finding a unicorn, and the staff at reception actually know the area well enough to give you real recommendations, not just the touristy stuff. I mean, it’s not the Ritz – the furniture is modern but not fancy, and the bathroom could use a small refresh – but for families or groups who want space to breathe and a genuine local experience rather than being trapped in some corporate hotel bubble, this hits the sweet spot. Plus, watching the sunset over the park from that height? Worth the stay alone.
