Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Silkari Charrington on Centennial Avenue – honestly, Chatswood isn’t exactly where you’d think to look for a standout hotel. But this place actually surprised me. It’s tucked into this sort of residential-commercial strip that feels more like inner Melbourne than Sydney, and there’s something refreshingly low-key about the whole setup. The building itself has this modern but not-trying-too-hard vibe, and when you walk in, the lobby has these warm timber accents that immediately make you feel like you’re somewhere thoughtfully designed rather than just another cookie-cutter business hotel.
What really won me over was how the staff seemed to actually know the area – not just the tourist stuff, but the real Chatswood. The guy at reception told me about this Vietnamese bakery around the corner that opens at 5am (and honestly, their banh mi became my breakfast routine), and when I mentioned I needed to get to the city for a meeting, he didn’t just say “take the train” but walked me through the exact platform timing during morning rush hour. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place – clean, comfortable, decent shower pressure – but it’s the little touches that stick with you. The blackout curtains actually work (trust me, this matters when you’re jet-lagged), and there’s this perfect reading light by the bed that doesn’t disturb whoever you’re sharing with. I mean, it’s not luxury by any stretch, but everything just… works.
The location thing is interesting because Chatswood gets written off as this boring suburban hub, but staying here you realize it’s actually pretty brilliant. You’re literally two minutes from Chatswood Station, which gets you to the CBD in fifteen minutes, but you’re also walking distance to some genuinely great eating – there’s this whole strip of Korean and Chinese places that locals actually go to, not just the tourist-friendly spots. The hotel itself sits right between the residential quiet and the shopping bustle, so you can sleep without traffic noise but still grab groceries or a decent coffee without getting in a car. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven in Sydney will tell you is basically a miracle. Look, it’s not going to be the most Instagram-worthy stay of your life, but if you want a place that feels like it’s run by people who care about doing things properly, and you’d rather spend your money on good food and experiences than just a fancy hotel lobby, this is your spot.

Great location within walking distance to transport & shopping – Velottante from Australia – 14 July 2025 (9/10)
Our second time staying here. Great location within walking distance to transport & shopping. Rooms are cosy, beds comfortable & adequate space for two people.
The continental breakfast is a nice touch & combined with a later checkout, doesn't make one feel rushed in the morning.
What could be improved: Bathroom is smallish so getting ready in the morning ends up being a little danceLovely stay for a family of 6. Location was within a 10 minute walk to the train station (some uphill), and a little fur – Tina from Australia – 10 July 2025 (9/10)
The property was lovely. We had the triple rooms on the ground floor which were great and adjoining.
Breakfast was a great addition and there were lots of choices.
What could be improved: The only bins were tiny ones in the bathroom.Exceptional – Loise from Philippines – 6 July 2025 (10/10)
Interiors are so well done and location is perfect. Near a lot of shops that are open late; also near a lot of the bus stops and the metro station. Just perfect.
Exceptional – Taylah from Australia – 28 June 2025 (10/10)
It really beautiful and the staff were wonderful and I would go back any day.
What could be improved: The limited parking which was listed before bookingVery good – Alison from Australia – 28 June 2025 (8/10)
Comfortable and quiet, with free street parking .
What could be improved: I would have liked a kettle in the bedroomQuiet, clean and cosy. Not a sterile hotel – Jennifer from Australia – 24 June 2025 (10/10)
Quiet location but close to public transport. Doesn’t feel like a sterile hotel but more of a guesthouse. Breakfast included was great. Friendly staff.
What could be improved: Parking during the week more difficult with school opposite but fine from Friday nightI arrived after 2130 and departed at 10am next morning , all worked well , would happily stay again – Neville from Australia – 22 June 2025 (8/10)
Breakfast was a simple Continental but contained all I needed .
What could be improved: NothingPerfect – Liu from Macao – 6 June 2025 (9/10)
Very homely. Breakfast is like what we usually eat at home. I don't need a big buffet breakfast like those in big hotels.
What could be improved: I can't think of any for now. It was a very good experience.Very good – Daniella from Australia – 2 June 2025 (8/10)
Convenient location next to the school
What could be improved: No marmelade! The " new" Charrington delivers. – Denise from Australia – 1 June 2025 (9/10)
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the complimentary breakfast was excellent . A generous and varied choice available of good quality food. The new breakfast area works really well.
If you're looking for a hotel close to transport options in Chatswood and a reasonable price this is a good choice
