Rydges North Sydney
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels in Sydney over the years, and Rydges North Sydney actually surprised me in the best way possible. When I first walked into the lobby on McLaren Street, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, North Sydney can feel a bit corporate and sterile, you know? But honestly, this place has this warm, welcoming vibe that immediately puts you at ease. The staff genuinely seemed happy to see me, not just going through the motions, and check-in was refreshingly quick without feeling rushed.
What really won me over was how thoughtfully everything’s set up here. The rooms are properly spacious (not those cramped boxes you get at some city hotels), and the beds are actually comfortable – I’m talking about that sweet spot where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re drowning in pillows. The bathrooms are modern and clean, with decent water pressure, which honestly matters more than people realize when you’re dealing with jet lag or long conference days. Speaking of which, the location is brilliant if you’re doing business in North Sydney – you’re literally walking distance to the CBD via the Harbour Bridge, and the train station is right there when you need it. But here’s the thing locals know: you’re also perfectly positioned to escape the tourist crowds while still being close enough to pop over to Circular Quay or The Rocks when you want to.
The real standout feature has to be the pool area and gym facilities – they’ve got this rooftop setup that gives you proper harbor glimpses without the premium harbor view price tag. I spent a good chunk of my mornings up there, and it never felt crowded even during busy periods. The restaurant downstairs serves solid food (their breakfast is particularly good, though I’d skip the dinner service and venture out to some of the great spots in nearby Crows Nest instead). One small thing that impressed me was how quiet the rooms are – despite being on a main street, I barely heard traffic noise, which is no small feat in Sydney. The only minor gripe I had was that the air conditioning can be a bit temperamental, but the staff sorted it out quickly when I mentioned it. At 4.5 stars with consistently good reviews, Rydges North Sydney delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable, well-located base that doesn’t break the bank but doesn’t feel like you’re compromising on quality either.
