Rydges Darling Square Apartment Hotel
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of Sydney hotels, and the Rydges Darling Square honestly surprised me in the best way. You know how some places try to be everything to everyone? This one actually pulls it off. The apartment-style setup means you’re not cramped into a tiny room – I mean, you get a proper kitchenette and living area, which is brilliant if you’re staying more than a night or two. The building itself sits right on Liverpool Street, and here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you’re literally a two-minute walk from ICC Sydney and about five minutes from Darling Harbour without dealing with the tourist chaos that comes with staying right on the waterfront.
What I really appreciated was how they’ve nailed the balance between hotel service and apartment freedom. The front desk staff actually know the neighborhood – when I asked about good coffee that wasn’t Starbucks, they pointed me to this little spot on Dixon Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms feel modern without being sterile, and honestly, the soundproofing is better than I expected for CBD accommodation. I could barely hear the street noise, which is saying something considering Liverpool Street gets pretty busy during the day. The gym is small but functional (though it gets packed around 6 PM), and there’s a decent-sized pool area that catches the afternoon sun – perfect for unwinding after walking around the city all day.
Here’s what sold me on this place: the location is just smart. You’re close enough to Chinatown to grab late-night dumplings, walking distance to Central Station if you need to catch a train, and you can easily stroll to the QVB or Pitt Street Mall for shopping. But you’re also tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the King Street Wharf crowds or the George Street construction noise. Parking can be a bit pricey (welcome to Sydney CBD), but there’s a Wilson parking garage practically next door if you’re driving. The 8.3 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers on what matters: clean, comfortable rooms, helpful staff, and a location that actually makes sense for exploring Sydney. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was in town for a conference or planning to spend time around Darling Harbour and the CBD.
