Hotel Description

You know what? The Royal Hotel Ryde isn’t going to blow you away with Instagram-worthy lobbies or rooftop pools, but honestly – that’s kind of the point. This 3-star spot on Blaxland Road has this unpretentious, straightforward vibe that I actually found pretty refreshing after staying at some overly fancy places that charge you $8 for a bottle of water.

The location is one of those things that sounds boring on paper but works out really well in practice. I mean, Ryde isn’t exactly Circular Quay, but you’re about 20 minutes from the city center and – here’s the thing most people don’t realize – you’re practically next door to some genuinely good local spots. There’s this little strip of cafes and restaurants just down the road that the hotel staff will point you toward if you ask (and you should ask, because the concierge actually knows the neighborhood). The train station is close enough that you can hear it if you’re a light sleeper, but it’s not one of those situations where you’re jolted awake at 5 AM. Parking was surprisingly easy, which… if you’ve driven around Sydney, you know that’s worth mentioning.

The rooms themselves are clean and functional – think business traveler meets weekend getaway rather than luxury retreat. The beds are comfortable enough, though the pillows could use an upgrade (I ended up asking for an extra one). What I appreciated was how quiet everything was once you’re inside. The walls seem pretty solid, and even with other guests around, I wasn’t dealing with hallway conversations or slamming doors. The bathroom had decent water pressure and actually stayed warm, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places mess that up. There’s free Wi-Fi that actually works consistently – tested it on video calls and didn’t have any issues.

The breakfast situation is pretty standard continental fare, nothing fancy but it gets the job done. Fresh fruit, decent coffee, and they keep everything stocked even during busy periods. I was there during school holidays and expected chaos, but the staff seemed to have their rhythm down. Speaking of staff – they’re genuinely helpful without being overly chatty, which I prefer. When I needed restaurant recommendations, they gave me actual local spots rather than just pointing me toward tourist traps.

Look, with a 7.2 rating, this isn’t going to be anyone’s dream destination, but it’s solid and reliable. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, have a decent breakfast, and head out to explore without feeling like you’re missing out on some amazing hotel experience. If you’re looking for marble bathrooms and champagne service, keep scrolling. But if you want a clean, comfortable base in Sydney that won’t eat your entire travel budget – and you don’t mind being a bit outside the main tourist zone – the Royal Hotel Ryde does exactly what it promises. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  • Very good – Maryanne from Australia – 2 July 2025 (8/10)

    Comfortable

What could be improved: No hot water in the showers

  • Very comfortable layover – Fiona from Australia – 24 April 2025 (8/10)

We spent one night as a short layover to refresh and get some sleep before a drive home. It was comfortable and all our needs were met. Staff were great, amenities clean and beds comfortable. It was also a short walk to Sotto within Ryde Park, across the road, a really lovely location for breakfast.

What could be improved: Unusually, there was absolutely torrential rain and wild storm that night and the roof leaked (disturbing our sleep).

  • Great location, clean, good room facilities. – Colin from Australia – 19 April 2025 (8/10)

Large rooms, clean bathrooms, water in room.

What could be improved: Renovation noise (power tools) starting too early. Most likely completed now.

  • Highly recommend for next stay! Excellent hospitality – Kelemete from Australia – 19 August 2024 (8/10)

Location (easy access to main roads and a few doors down on the same street are chemist, shops, carparks, park). Stayed in room that catered to a large family/group

What could be improved: Balcony could be visibly accessible as wasnt sure if we could use it because of the window like door access and the curtains over it?

  • A really pleasant stay – Madalynn from Australia – 28 February 2024 (8/10)

The connivence to Olympic park, the comfy beds, having a mini fridge in the room aircon was working great.
