Quest at Sydney Olympic Park
You know what surprised me about the Quest at Sydney Olympic Park? It’s actually way more than just a convenient crash pad for events – though honestly, that’s probably why most people end up there initially. I mean, you’re literally on Edwin Flack Avenue, so you can practically roll out of bed and be at ANZ Stadium or Qudos Bank Arena in minutes. But here’s the thing – even when there’s nothing major happening at the park, this place has this unexpectedly relaxed vibe that makes it feel less corporate hotel and more like a proper neighborhood spot.
The rooms are genuinely spacious (not that fake “spacious” hotels always claim), and I love that they’ve got proper apartment-style setups with kitchenettes. Perfect for when you grab groceries from the Woolworths that’s basically next door, or when you want to reheat those amazing dumplings from the night markets at nearby Strathfield – which, by the way, is just a quick train ride away on the Olympic Park line. The staff actually knows the area too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They’ll tell you about the good coffee spot tucked away near the Aquatic Centre, or mention that the best time to explore Bicentennial Park is early morning when it’s still cool and the ibises haven’t taken over completely.
What really sold me though was how quiet it gets at night. I was expecting constant noise from Homebush Bay Drive, but the soundproofing is solid – you get these glimpses of the old Olympic venues lit up without the traffic chaos. Parking is straightforward (and free, which in Sydney is basically a miracle), and the whole Olympic Park area transforms completely depending on when you visit. During big events it’s absolutely buzzing, but on random weekdays it’s almost eerily peaceful in the best way possible. The hotel sits at this sweet spot where you feel connected to the city – Central Station is maybe 20 minutes by train – but you’re not dealing with the intensity of staying right in the CBD. Plus, there’s something kind of cool about staying where all the Olympic action happened back in 2000. I mean, you’re walking the same paths as those athletes, just with better coffee options now.
