Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about this place? The moment you walk into this two-level setup on Pyrmont Street, it doesn’t feel like a typical hotel at all – it’s more like staying in someone’s really well-appointed city apartment, except you get actual hotel service. I mean, the whole “private 2 levels” thing in the name sounds a bit awkward, but honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work so well.

The location is just… perfect, actually. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the ICC – I timed it because I was paranoid about being late for a conference – and Darling Harbour is right there when you step outside. But here’s the thing locals know: Pyrmont Street itself is brilliant because you’re close enough to everything touristy, yet far enough from the King Street Wharf crowds that you can actually sleep at night. The building sits in this sweet spot where you can walk to Barangaroo in one direction or head toward the fish markets in the other (seriously, grab breakfast there if you’re up early). There’s a Woolworths about two blocks down if you want to stock up on snacks, and the light rail stop is close enough that getting to Central Station or even out to the casino is dead easy.

What really sells this place is how they’ve done the two levels – the bedroom upstairs feels properly separate from the living area downstairs, so if you’re traveling with someone and have different schedules, you’re not tiptoeing around each other. The ensuite bathroom is one of those modern jobs with a rainfall shower that actually has decent water pressure (you’d be surprised how often Sydney hotels get this wrong). I loved having proper space to spread out my stuff without living out of a suitcase for a week. The kitchen setup downstairs is functional enough that you could do more than just make coffee – though let’s be real, with all the restaurants around Pyrmont and the CBD, you probably won’t cook much. The windows face the right way too, so you get good natural light without the afternoon sun turning the place into a greenhouse.

Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no weird delays or confusing key card situations. The staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood when I asked about getting to specific places, which is rarer than it should be. Honestly, the whole experience felt more personal than your typical big hotel chain, but without any of that annoying boutique hotel pretentiousness where they’re trying too hard to be quirky. The 9 rating makes sense when you consider you’re getting this much space and privacy right in the heart of Sydney – it’s not cheap, but neither is anything else in this part of town, and at least here you feel like you’re getting proper value for what you’re paying.

    Incredible spot for value. We were completely blown away by the amount of space you get. 2 entire spacious bedrooms, 2 balconies, 2 bathrooms, big living room/kitchen etc. Will definitely be back if it’s available!! Most underrated accomodation in Sydney city for sure.

    The location was great and the balcony was a lovely addition. We were really surprised how big the apartment was which was great. The host was really responsive to our questions and replaced a faulty item really quickly. Check in and out was really simple.

    Spacious apartment

    What could be improved: The facilities,, are dreadful, and they are certainly not fully equipped. For example, there was 1 dinner plate, 5 side plates, and 2 dessert bowls, all of which were thrown in a drawer. The oven and dishwasher were filthy, as were the vents above them; they were covered in grease and grime.  The tumble dryer was broken but no notice put on it to say, so we blew the electrics plugging it in! And I had a load of washing to get dry!
    The decor is tired, i.e., patches of carpet are threadbare, and it needs a repaint. There is dirt and stains all over the place. The wardrobe door was jammed off its runner, and random used bags were in drawers and bathroom cabinets.
    Finally, there was no information anywhere about anything in the apartment, so I had to contact the owner for wifi codes, etc. So there seemed to be no checking over the place between hires. 
    All of this information was a surprise to the owner, which is unlikely as that level of grime and lack of crockery, etc, doesn't happen between 2 stays!

    Sadly, we were unable to use any facilities we expected from an apartment stay and may as well have stayed in a hotel for less expense. First time I've been let down by booking.com.
