Look, I’ll be straight with you about Perouse Randwick – it’s one of those places that surprises you in the best way possible. When I first pulled up to 6 Perouse Road, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot, but there’s something genuinely charming about this little Sydney Lodges property that gets under your skin.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Sydney at all. You’re in Randwick, which means you’re close enough to the city center without dealing with all that tourist chaos around Circular Quay. I mean, the Royal Randwick Racecourse is practically next door – and you know what? That’s either going to be amazing or slightly annoying depending on whether there’s a race day happening. The staff mentioned this when I checked in (super smooth process, by the way), and I appreciated the heads up. But honestly, most of the time it’s just this quiet residential area where you can actually hear yourself think. The rooms have this clean, unfussy vibe that works really well – nothing fancy, but everything you need is there and it’s all been thought through properly. What I loved was how they’ve managed to make a smaller property feel spacious rather than cramped. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong), and the bathrooms are modern without trying too hard to be trendy. There’s decent parking too, which if you’ve ever driven around Sydney, you’ll know is worth its weight in gold.

What really sells this place for me is that it feels like the kind of spot locals might actually recommend to their visiting friends – not too touristy, not too expensive, just solid and reliable with a bit of personality. The 8.2 rating makes perfect sense when you stay here because it’s not trying to be something it’s not. It’s comfortable, the location works brilliantly for exploring different parts of Sydney (you can get to Bondi pretty easily, and the city’s totally doable), and the whole experience just feels… right, I guess? Plus, Randwick has some genuinely good cafes and restaurants within walking distance that you won’t find in any guidebook – the kind of places where you grab a proper coffee and realize you’ve stumbled onto something special. If you’re looking for a place that gives you a real feel for Sydney life without breaking the bank or dealing with crowds of tourists in the lobby, Perouse Randwick definitely delivers.
