So here’s the thing about Perfect Laneway Terrace – it’s tucked away on Steel Lane in Surry Hills, and I mean really tucked away. You’ll probably walk past it twice before you spot the entrance, which honestly makes finding it feel like discovering some secret local hideaway. The whole building has this industrial-chic vibe going on, all exposed brick and steel beams, but they’ve softened it with these gorgeous plants cascading down the terrace levels. When I first walked in, I actually thought “oh, this is what happens when someone with actual taste renovates a warehouse.”

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve nailed the Surry Hills aesthetic without trying too hard. You know how some hotels feel like they’re cosplaying as trendy? This isn’t that. The rooms have these massive windows – I’m talking floor-to-ceiling – that flood everything with natural light during the day. At night, you get this lovely warm glow from the Edison bulb fixtures (yeah, I know, everyone does Edison bulbs now, but these actually work). The beds are properly comfortable too, not just Instagram-pretty. I slept like a rock, which doesn’t always happen in boutique places. The bathroom situation is interesting – they’ve got this polished concrete thing happening that could feel cold, but somehow doesn’t. Good water pressure, by the way, which matters more than people admit.

Location-wise, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Crown Street, so all those cafes and wine bars are right there. Reuben Hills for coffee, obviously, and if you’re into natural wine, you can stumble to Frankie’s Pizza in about thirty seconds. The Saturday markets at Shannon Reserve are close enough that you’ll hear the early morning setup if you’re a light sleeper – not necessarily a bad thing, just fair warning. Parking is typical inner-city Sydney (translation: good luck), but there’s a Wilson car park about a block away if you’re driving. Most people just Uber in from the airport anyway. The staff seem to actually live in the area, which shows – they’ll point you toward the good stuff, not just the obvious tourist spots. One guy at the front desk told me about this little laneway bar I never would have found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, none of that “your room isn’t ready yet” nonsense even though I arrived early. With a 9.5 rating, you’d expect things to run properly, and they do. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere special without making a big deal about it, if that makes sense.

  My grandson and I loved Perfect Laneway Terrace, Surry Hills. It was spotless, comfortable and ideal for us. We loved the area and the ease of getting to so many places in Sydney.
  Gabriel is an excellent host. He is welcoming and always responds promptly to messages.
  If you visit Perfect Laneway Terrace, you won't be disappointed. It's great.
