Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about this place – the Paddington Garden Cottage isn’t going to win any design awards, but there’s something really charming about staying here that grows on you. When I first walked down Margaret Place (it’s this tiny street that honestly feels more like a laneway), I almost missed it entirely. The cottage sits tucked away from all the Oxford Street chaos, which is actually perfect because you get the best of both worlds – you’re literally a three-minute walk from all those boutiques and cafes, but you can actually sleep at night without hearing trams rattling past.
The wifi thing they mention in the name? Yeah, they’re not kidding around. I mean, I’ve stayed in five-star places in the city where the internet was slower than this little cottage. Really saved me when I had to jump on calls back home – the connection never dropped once. The garden part is sweet too, though don’t expect some sprawling botanical paradise. It’s more like a cozy courtyard situation with enough greenery to make your morning coffee feel special. You know what I loved? The way the morning light filters through this old jacaranda tree (well, I think it’s jacaranda – I’m not exactly a botanist). There’s something about drinking your first coffee of the day out there that just hits different.
The cottage itself feels properly lived-in, if that makes sense. The floors creak a bit when you walk around, and the shower takes about thirty seconds to get properly hot, but honestly? That’s part of the charm. You’re staying in Paddington, not some sterile hotel tower. The kitchen is actually decent-sized for Sydney standards – I managed to cook a proper breakfast without elbowing myself in the ribs every time I turned around. Speaking of breakfast, there’s this little bakery on Oxford Street called Bourke Street Bakery that does these almond croissants… but I’m getting sidetracked. The point is, having a real kitchen meant I could grab fresh stuff from the Paddington Markets on Saturday and actually use it.
Parking was easier than I expected, which for this part of Sydney is saying something. There’s usually a spot somewhere on the surrounding streets, though weekends can get a bit tricky when the markets are on. The whole area gets pretty buzzy on Saturdays – you’ve got locals doing their weekly shop, tourists wandering around, street musicians setting up near the church. It’s lovely chaos, really. Walking to Centennial Park takes about ten minutes if you’re feeling energetic, and catching the bus into the city from Oxford Street is dead simple.
Is it perfect? No – the hot water situation I mentioned, and the bedroom can get a bit stuffy in summer even with the fan going. But there’s something genuine about this place that you just don’t get in those cookie-cutter accommodations. It feels like staying at a friend’s place, except your friend has really good taste in neighborhoods and actually remembers to stock decent coffee. For what you’re paying and where you’re staying, it’s honestly pretty solid value.

Reviews
Cosy, nicely styled, comfortabe, in the BEST location – Melissa from Australia – 5 July 2025 (9/10)
Just off Oxford st and Glenmore rd, this tiny, lovely cottage is in the most brilliant location. Although we had our car, (which is tricky), we were lucky to find a park with no time restrictions in Young st around the corner, so we alked everywhere in Paddington and nearby . There are beautiful cafes, bookshops, pubs, beautiful clothing all within minutes. The bed is super comfy, the big couch is super comfy, nice lamps for soft lighting, it was a perfect base for two nights. The weather was so wet and windy, but inside was so cosy.
What could be improved: We were lucky to find parking, nearby, because of the heavy rain, it would not have been convenient having to move car every 2 hours. Probably better without a car, the bus is 1 minute awaySuperb – Johanna from Germany – 28 December 2024 (9/10)
"A beautifully decorated and cozy apartment in a fantastic location! It was easy to feel comfortable here. From previous reviews, we were aware of a previous pest issue caused by less considerate guests. The situation has been professionally addressed, and any insects entering the house are effectively dealt with by the applied treatment. During our stay, we encountered a few isolated incidents with dead insects on three out of six mornings.
We discussed the matter with Tyson, the host, who was very courteous and understanding. He even offered us the option to check out with a refund for the remaining nights. Reassured by the proactive measures in place, we decided to stay. The apartment itself is very welcoming and comfortable, and this issue should not be a concern in the future."A lovely stay in Paddington – Fiona from Australia – 26 September 2024 (9/10)

Superb – James from Australia – 26 March 2024 (9/10)
Character cottage loved the location
What could be improved: All goodIt was a great little base and secure to be able to leave my things whilst I went travelling. – Aileen from United Kingdom – 22 February 2024 (8/10)
The location was perfect for proximity to my friends in Paddington and for Oxford Street shopping etc.
It was a quiet spot, in the main, and had everything I needed to be able to live comfortably and I assume had been treated for "wildlife" as all three cockroaches I found were dead and there were very few mosquitoes!
And I resuscitated the dying succulent on the patio table…which I was pleased to do.
What could be improved: It took me some time to find the refrigerator in the wardrobe and its presence there made for very restrictive hanging space. Said refrigerator's ice box was so severely iced up and lacking a door that it was unusable which is a shame as all other kitchen equipment was good.Very enjoyable. Would stay again. Lovely neighbour with his dogs. – John from Australia – 6 March 2023 (8/10)
No breakfast. Just tea and coffee. No sugar available. Parking a nightmare
What could be improved: A larger TV. would be good. No bedside lamps.Good – Christopher from United Kingdom – 20 February 2023 (7/10)
Great location
What could be improved: Servicing , not provided during two week staygreat position in Paddington – near to all restaurants cafes shops and amenities – Alison from United Kingdom – 3 November 2022 (9/10)
very comfortable light and airy and clean.
What could be improved: n/aVery relaxing on the whole – no one can account for storm force winds! – Rex from United Kingdom – 21 January 2025 (8/10)
Very tidy and beautifully decorated.
What could be improved: We had unusually strong winds during our stay and the tree outside the walk in shower banged against the glass roof. This did disturb us at night and I would recommend having the branch pruned before it does serious damage to the glass roof.
