You know what caught me off guard about the Olympic Park hotel? I was expecting some sort of sterile, corporate place – I mean, it’s literally on Australia Avenue right in the heart of Sydney Olympic Park – but honestly, it feels way more personal than that. The lobby has this surprisingly warm vibe, and when I checked in, the staff actually remembered my name throughout the stay (which, let’s be real, doesn’t happen everywhere).

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you think about it. Sure, you’re not in the CBD, but you’re sitting right next to ANZ Stadium and the Aquatic Centre, and there’s something kind of cool about staying where all those Olympic moments happened back in 2000. I could literally walk to events at the stadium – no dealing with parking nightmares or trying to figure out the train schedule after a late show. Plus, the whole Olympic Park area has really grown up over the years. There’s decent coffee at the nearby cafes, and if you need groceries or whatever, there’s shopping within walking distance. The train connections are actually solid too – Central Station in about 30 minutes, which isn’t bad at all.

What really impressed me was the attention to detail. The rooms are spacious (I mean, genuinely spacious, not hotel-brochure spacious), and the beds are exactly the right firmness. The bathrooms have proper water pressure – you know how hotels sometimes have those sad, dribbling showers? Not here. There’s also this nice touch where they’ve got floor-to-ceiling windows in most rooms, so you get these sweeping views of the parklands. In the morning, it’s actually pretty peaceful watching people jog around the paths below. The sound insulation is solid too, which matters because you’ve got events happening at the venues pretty regularly. I stayed during a concert weekend and barely heard anything from my room on the 8th floor.

The restaurant downstairs serves better food than I expected – their breakfast buffet has proper bacon (not that weird processed stuff), and they do a decent flat white. Room service was quick the one time I used it, though I’ll be honest, it’s not cheap. But then again, you’re paying for the convenience and the fact that everything just… works. The wifi is fast, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine, and housekeeping actually pays attention to details like restocking the coffee pods and folding the towels properly.

I think what really sells this place is that 9.8 rating – and honestly, I get it. It’s not trying to be the flashiest hotel in Sydney, but it does everything really well. If you’re coming for an event at Olympic Park, it’s a no-brainer. But even if you’re just looking for a solid base to explore Sydney from, it’s worth considering. The value is definitely there for a 4-star place, and you’re getting that reliable, comfortable experience without any nasty surprises.

  It was a large apartment, excellent views of the city. The rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. We were going to a concert, which was only a ten minute walk. It was the ideal location. I would definitely stay there again
