Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about Oak Haven Sydney Suites – it’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be fancy, but honestly gets the job done better than hotels charging twice as much. The location on Evans Street is actually perfect if you know Sydney at all. You’re right in Rozelle, which means you can walk to the water at Rozelle Bay in about ten minutes (great for morning coffee runs, by the way), and the light rail stop is close enough that getting into the city center takes maybe 15 minutes. I mean, you’re not in the thick of Circular Quay madness, but that’s kind of the point – you get that neighbourhood feel without being stuck in the middle of nowhere.

The suites themselves are… well, they’re proper suites, not those tiny hotel rooms where you’re tripping over your suitcase. Each one has a decent-sized living area and a separate bedroom, plus a kitchenette that’s actually functional – I’m talking full-sized fridge, stovetop, the works. The furniture isn’t Instagram-worthy or anything, but it’s comfortable and clean, and you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need. The Wi-Fi works properly (tested it on video calls, no issues), and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine, which is more than I can say for some four-star places I’ve stayed. The windows face different directions depending on your room, so some get morning sun while others stay cooler – worth asking about when you book if you’re particular about that sort of thing.

What really sold me on this place was the staff, actually. Check-in was smooth, no attitude, and they genuinely seemed to know the area – gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots on Darling Street that weren’t just the usual tourist traps. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but there’s a secure garage underneath that’s included, which in Sydney is basically like finding gold. The neighbourhood gets pretty quiet after about 9 PM, so if you’re looking to party until dawn, maybe stay closer to Kings Cross. But if you want to actually sleep and wake up refreshed, it’s perfect. Fair warning though – weekends can get a bit livelier with the local pubs nearby, but it’s more “people having a good time” noise than “call the police” noise. For a three-star place with a 7 rating, Oak Haven delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense, and sometimes that’s worth more than all the marble lobbies and overpriced minibars in the world.

Reviews

  • Good – Catherine from Australia – 11 May 2025 (7/10)

Good location, comfy bed and well appointed kitchen. Easy parking in the street with the help of the parking permit supplied by our hosts. Great hosts – very attentive to our queries.

What could be improved: The suite was a bit smaller than we expected but very comfortable

  • Very good – Margaret from Australia – 27 April 2025 (8/10)

Comfortable beds. Very clean. Minimal noise. Everything felt new.

  • Great marvellous array of shops just up the road and a fabulous pub next door. – Lynda from United Kingdom – 30 March 2025 (8/10)

Very well thought out most things were covered but I couldn’t find the wifi password

  • Everything needed in limited space stairs an issue. – Maureen from Canada – 15 March 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Leave me on this short tour tonight just about all of it would be nice if there was an explanation for people that had to use the stairs before you confirm. Had a larger suitcase and was travelling alone. Not sure I would’ve got that suitcase up there if a young fellow hadn’t come along in a very convenient time. Will pay

  • Very good – Maureen from Australia – 10 February 2025 (8/10)

    Clean and modern

What could be improved: No coffee etc

  • Fantastic small space with convenience – Steph from Australia – 13 January 2025 (8/10)

Location of the property is excellent a short walk to most Rozelle locations and public transport easily accessible. Despite staying on a weekend we were able to get a car park close to the building easily as well.
Room was very clean and contained everything required for a comfortable stay

  • The room was suffice to our needs for the weekend. Thanks – Nathanial from Australia – 12 January 2025 (7/10)

The inside of the appartment is very nice, comfortable and clean.

What could be improved: The balcony in the description; is not a balcony at all. More like a window with a railing. It is not at all a balcony as expected.

  • Great room and quiet location. – Catherine from Australia – 30 May 2025 (8/10)

Liked how modern and clean the room was

  • Good little space for short term stay in great location – Mark from Australia – 28 May 2025 (8/10)

Good and comfy little pad for short term stay, great location in the heart of Balmain, close to main streets and shops, pubs, cafes etc..
Comfy bed, good aircon/heater, mod cons, shower
    Quiet most of time

What could be improved: Shower recess over flows into bathroom a bit so go through more towels ..And the apartment is small studio size
But aside from that it’s a chill space…The laundry is a separate communal area

  • Had some many good things but overall disappointing. – Nita from Australia – 8 April 2025 (6/10)

Great location, recently renovated, very clean

What could be improved: Its all the little things that make a difference to any stay. So, there was no toilet roll holder and no towel rail. But by far the worst thing is the glass door on bathroom, this meant little privacy. There was also a blue light illuminating the switches on bathroom mirror which shone brightly through glass door, hung towel over mirror to dim light,
