Novotel Sydney Olympic Park
You know, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels around Sydney, but the Novotel at Olympic Park actually surprised me in the best way. When you first pull up on Olympic Boulevard, it’s got this sleek, modern look that feels almost like it’s still riding the wave from the 2000 Olympics – which, honestly, it kind of is. The whole area has this interesting vibe where you’re technically in Sydney but it feels like its own little world, especially when there’s an event happening at ANZ Stadium and you can hear the crowd roar from your room.
The thing about staying here is that you’re basically in the heart of what locals call “the entertainment precinct,” but it’s not touristy in an annoying way. I mean, sure, you’ll see people in team jerseys wandering around on game days, but most of the time it’s surprisingly peaceful. The hotel itself has this crisp, business-friendly atmosphere – think clean lines, neutral colors, and that particular smell of fresh linens mixed with whatever they use to keep the lobby smelling like eucalyptus. The rooms are solid 4-star quality, nothing that’ll blow your mind but everything works properly, which is more than I can say for some places. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the soundproofing is decent enough that you won’t hear your neighbors unless they’re really going at it.
What I really appreciate is how they’ve thought about the practical stuff. Parking is straightforward – no circling the block five times like you’d deal with in the CBD. The staff genuinely seems to know the area well, so when you ask about getting to Homebush Bay or catching the train to Central, they don’t just hand you a generic map. And speaking of transport, the train station is literally a few minutes’ walk away, which makes getting into the city center pretty painless. The whole Olympic Park area has grown up a lot since the games – there’s decent coffee nearby, the Bicentennial Park is perfect for morning runs, and if you’re into markets, the weekend one at Flemington isn’t far. Look, it’s not going to be your romantic getaway spot, but if you’re here for business, catching an event, or just want somewhere reliable that won’t break the bank while still feeling proper, this place delivers. The 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s the kind of hotel that does what it promises without any nasty surprises.
