Hotel Description

So I stumbled into Nomads Sydney after a mate recommended it, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. Right on Kent Street in the thick of the CBD, you’re basically in the heart of everything – I mean, you can walk to Circular Quay in about fifteen minutes, and Town Hall station is practically around the corner. The building itself has this slightly worn backpacker vibe that’s actually kind of charming once you get used to it.

What I really liked about this place is how it manages to feel social without being overwhelming. The common areas have this buzzy energy where you’ll find people planning their Blue Mountains trip or swapping stories about their Bondi adventures, but you can also find quiet corners when you need to decompress. The rooms are… well, they’re hostel rooms, you know? Nothing fancy, but they’re clean and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. I stayed in a six-bed dorm and yeah, it can get a bit cramped, but the lockers are decent-sized and there’s actually enough power outlets – which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve been to. The bathrooms get pretty busy during morning rush hour, but that’s standard for this type of accommodation.

The staff here actually know their stuff about Sydney, which is refreshing. They’re not just handing you generic tourist brochures – they’ll tell you about the good coffee spots on Clarence Street or warn you that the Harbour Bridge gets mental on weekends. Location-wise, you’re spoiled for choice. Darling Harbour is a short walk south, and if you’re into the whole nightlife scene, you’ve got plenty of options within stumbling distance. I will say though, being right in the CBD means it can get pretty noisy – especially on Friday and Saturday nights when the party crowd spills out onto the streets. Bring earplugs or request a room facing away from Kent Street if you’re a light sleeper. The whole area has this constant city hum that some people love and others find exhausting, so just be aware of that. For what you’re paying though, and considering you’re basically staying in prime real estate territory, it’s pretty solid value. It’s not going to win any luxury awards, but if you want to be in the absolute center of Sydney without breaking the bank, Nomads delivers exactly what it promises.

  • Very good – Domecq from Australia – 2 July 2025 (8/10)

The deluxe 4 bedroom is amazing. It has personal plugs, curtains, and light, very similar to who they look like in Europe!
The receptionist Shopie from Germany was very attentive and descriptive about facililes.
The location is amazing, and it is very easy to catch public transport and you can walk everywhere.
The kitchen is equipped with everything that you might need to cook your meals!

What could be improved: Perhaps, toilets were not regularly cleaned for hosting so many guests. However, they were decent for a hostel!

    – Toilets can be bit far away from actually rooms
    – Kitchen closes at 10pm, could be closing later i suppose

    Great location.

    What could be improved: Minimalist

  • Good – Melissa from Australia – 22 October 2024 (7/10)

What could be improved: Great property but a couple of improvements possible: a clothing or book exchange and much less noisy beds.

  • Value for money private rooms – Hannah from Australia – 16 September 2024 (8/10)

I have stayed at this property twice in a private room and a private room with ensuite. Both times the rooms were clean and comfortable with windows for fresh air and a nice bed that was cosy, had a good doona and 2 pillows per person. The shared bathrooms are clean and modern. When staying here remember, it is a backpackers so it's not ritzy, but as a couple who are well past our years of staying in shared dorms, this is a fantastic option for us and we will be staying here whenever we visit Sydney from now on.

  • Great place to stay! 100% recommend! – Amelia from United Kingdom – 29 April 2024 (8/10)

Lovely friendly staff! Tom and Scotty were brilliant!

What could be improved: Not a lot of baggage storage

  • Good hostel in central Sydney – Dylan from United Kingdom – 20 February 2024 (8/10)

Good location. Room was organized and bed was sturdy and comfortable. Has curtain to give some privacy and usb chargers with each bed. Staff were helpful and friendly
