You know what? I walked past this place three times before I actually found it – and that’s honestly part of its charm. The New York Warehouse Style hotel (yeah, I know, the name’s a bit of a mouthful) sits pretty quietly on a side street in Sydney, and from the outside it looks like… well, exactly what you’d expect from a converted warehouse. But here’s the thing that got me – once you step inside, there’s this incredible sense of space and light that just hits you differently.

The whole passive house concept actually works here, which I’ll admit I was skeptical about. I mean, I’ve stayed in plenty of places that claim to be eco-friendly but then blast the air conditioning all night. This place though? The temperature just sort of… stays perfect. No weird humming from HVAC systems, no dry air that makes you wake up feeling like you’ve been in the desert. The industrial-style windows are massive – and I’m talking floor-to-ceiling massive – so you get this beautiful natural light during the day, plus you can actually open them for fresh air (revolutionary concept, right?). The exposed brick and concrete give it that authentic warehouse feel without making it feel cold or unwelcoming. There’s something about the way they’ve balanced the raw industrial elements with warmer touches that just works.

What really surprised me was how quiet it stays, even though you’re not exactly in the middle of nowhere. The thick walls and smart design mean you’re not hearing every car that drives by, which – let’s be honest – is pretty rare for Sydney accommodations in this price range. The staff genuinely seem to know their stuff too, not just the scripted responses you usually get. When I asked about getting to the harbor foreshore, the guy at the front desk actually drew me a little map showing the back streets that locals use. Check-in was smooth, none of that “your room isn’t ready but you can wait in our lobby for three hours” nonsense. And here’s a small thing that mattered more than I expected – the shower pressure is fantastic. I don’t know if it’s the building’s plumbing setup or what, but after a long day walking around the city, that hot water pressure felt like a minor miracle. The only real downside I’d mention is that the minimalist aesthetic means storage space is a bit limited, so if you’re someone who likes to completely unpack and spread out, you might feel a bit cramped. But honestly? For the quality of sleep I got and the overall vibe of the place, I’d definitely book it again.
