Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about this place? Walking into the Oaks Hotel lobby on Castlereagh Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a CBD studio apartment – but honestly, Unit 502B on the sixth floor is way more thoughtfully put together than most hotel rooms I’ve stayed in around Sydney. The whole setup feels like someone actually lives here, not just passes through.

The studio itself is compact but clever – I mean, they’ve managed to fit everything you need without that cramped feeling you get in a lot of city accommodations. The kitchen area is surprisingly functional (I actually cooked breakfast a couple mornings instead of paying $25 for eggs downstairs), and the bed situation is comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that hotel-bed backache. What really sold me though was the light – being on the sixth floor, you get decent natural light even in the middle of the CBD, which is honestly rare. The street noise from Castlereagh isn’t too bad either, though if you’re a super light sleeper, you might notice the early morning delivery trucks around 6 AM.

Location-wise, this is where it gets interesting. You’re literally in the thick of everything – Wynyard Station is maybe a seven-minute walk, and you can hit Martin Place in about the same time. I found myself grabbing coffee at that little place on Hunter Street most mornings, and for dinner, you’ve got everything from the fancy spots in the GPO building to decent pub food at the Mercantile Hotel just down the road. The thing about staying right on Castlereagh is you’re close enough to walk to Circular Quay when the weather’s nice, but far enough from the touristy chaos that you can actually get some peace. Parking is… well, it’s the CBD, so forget about street parking, but there’s a Wilson parking garage nearby if you’re driving. Check-in was pretty straightforward through the Oaks front desk – they know the drill with these short-term rentals. The 7.8 rating seems about right, honestly – it’s not going to blow you away, but it does exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises.

  Great location, clean and tidy, very quiet given the busy location. Host was fantastic to deal with and answered all of my questions without any issues.

  Great location for a week close to city and quiet at night with access to buses and trams, clean, comfy King bed, good bathroom size, kitchenette facilities, lovely pool, laundry room. Bill, our host, was great communicating and responding to our request.
  
  What could be improved: There isn’t really enough space to cook anything on the hob, and the floor space for cases is limited. It is “cosy”.

  The location and cleanliness was fantastic however the best part was the customer service. Bill – out contact – helped us with checking in early and storing luggage. He was very communicative and responded to questions quickly. The housekeeping staff were also super helpful and friendly.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing really. If I had to find anything you would say that it was functional, clean, comfortable but not flash. There were some building works happening but they did not affect our visit.

  It’s a cute but small unit. Very nice bathroom and good bed. Great location for walking this city. The cleaners were extremely nice and thorough.
  
  What could be improved: Could have used more than 1 towel each for 5 night stay. Could use towel bars or hooks. Would install soap and shampoo dispensers. The Oaks hotel would not store luggage, even for a fee. Could be space problem but their refusal to let us use lobby WiFi was mean. I explained I needed it for your checkin instructions. We went to neighboring hotel and they were helpful. Stored bags at convenience store on the corner.

  Good location, close to train station. Easy walk to Darling Harbour and other tourist spots.
  
  What could be improved: Very noisy fan in air-conditioning. Too noisy to sleep with patio door open therefore flat pretty hot.

  Great location and the property room was exactly as described. Great host with good communication. Very useful to have extra bits like a hairdryer, kettle, drying rack, washing powder etc – extra touches were 10/10. Clear check in instructions.

  Cozy, clean, not noisy, there are cooking facilities, near places to eat, Paddy market, China Town, easy to train station, easy to Central station, and near luggage store.

  The location was great, within walking distance to trams and trains. The apartment is great for couples with restaurants and supermarkets nearby. Sadly, I didn't use the swimming pool nor the gym as was out all the time.
