Look, I’ll be straight with you about this Paddington townhouse – it’s one of those places that grows on you the longer you stay. When I first walked up to it, honestly, I wasn’t blown away by the exterior. It’s pretty standard for the area, sitting on one of those tree-lined streets where all the terraces look vaguely similar. But once you get inside, you realize they’ve actually done something smart with the space.

The three bedrooms are genuinely spacious, which is sort of a miracle in Sydney these days. I mean, you can actually fit a proper suitcase at the foot of the bed without doing some weird sideways shuffle to get around it. The main bedroom gets lovely morning light – though if you’re a late sleeper, you might want to invest in the heavy curtains they’ve got hanging there. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re practically in the heart of Paddington. You know what’s funny? The kitchen is where they really nailed it. It’s got this big island bench that becomes the natural gathering spot, and there’s enough room for multiple people to cook without bumping into each other constantly.

The location is honestly the main selling point here. You’re a five-minute walk from Oxford Street, which means you can grab everything from late-night groceries to proper coffee without thinking twice about it. The Saturday markets at Paddington are literally around the corner – and trust me, you’ll hear the setup starting around 7 AM, but it’s worth it for the convenience. There’s this little café called Gumption that does incredible brunch, just down William Street, and honestly, having that as your local spot makes you feel like you’re living the proper Sydney life for a while. Parking can be a bit of a game during the week (welcome to inner Sydney), but there’s usually something within a block or two if you don’t mind a short walk.

The whole place has this relaxed, lived-in feel that actually makes it comfortable rather than intimidating. Sure, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the shower pressure in the main bathroom is decent but not spectacular, but there’s something refreshing about a place that feels more like a home than a hotel room. The hosts clearly know the area well – they left this thoughtful little guide with actual useful recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots. They suggested this wine bar called Maybe Sammy that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my favorite discoveries.

If you’re looking for that perfect Instagram moment, this probably isn’t it. But if you want a comfortable base where you can spread out, cook a proper meal, and feel connected to one of Sydney’s most vibrant neighborhoods, it’s actually pretty ideal. The 4-star rating feels about right – it’s solid, dependable, and well-located without being flashy. Just don’t expect luxury finishes or concierge service, because that’s not what this place is about.
