Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I booked this warehouse conversion on Mallett Street – I mean, Camperdown isn’t exactly where you’d think to stay in Sydney, right? But walking into Unit 15, I actually got it immediately. The space has this cool industrial vibe that feels deliberately unfinished in the best way possible, with exposed brick and those massive windows that let in ridiculous amounts of light during the day.

The two bedrooms are surprisingly spacious, and you know what really sold me? The kitchen actually works for more than just reheating takeaway. I ended up cooking a proper breakfast most mornings because the setup felt so liveable – there’s decent counter space and the appliances aren’t those mini hotel versions that barely function. The living area flows naturally from the kitchen, which makes it feel like you’re staying in someone’s actual apartment rather than a sterile hotel room. The whole place has this warehouse-y echo that some people might find odd, but I sort of loved how it made everything feel bigger than it was.

Location-wise, you’re about a 15-minute walk to Newtown’s King Street, which honestly beats staying right in the thick of it if you ask me – you get all the good coffee shops and bars without the constant street noise. The light rail stop at Dulwich Hill is walkable too, though I usually just grabbed an Uber into the city center since it’s only about 10 minutes. Parking was surprisingly easy around here (definitely easier than trying to park in Surry Hills), and the whole neighborhood has this quiet, residential feel that I wasn’t expecting so close to everything. There’s a decent café literally around the corner on Mallett Street that does proper flat whites, and the IGA nearby covers all your basics without having to trek somewhere else.

The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything works well and the space genuinely feels thoughtfully designed. Check-in was smooth, though the building entrance is a bit tucked away so keep your eyes open for the street numbers. My only real complaint would be that the bathroom tiles get pretty slippery when wet, and the bedroom facing the street picks up some traffic noise in the mornings, but we’re talking normal city sounds, not construction or anything jarring. If you’re looking for that classic Sydney hotel experience with harbor views and marble lobbies, this obviously isn’t it. But if you want somewhere that feels like you’re actually living in Sydney for a few days rather than just visiting it, this warehouse conversion really delivers on that front.

    The location was great for the work event we were attending.

    What could be improved: Poor communication from hosts. Last minute email regarding checkin which was followed with an apology and explanation. However, there was no method of contact for questions after checkin. Our emails bounced back on Day 2 of our stay and follow up phone messages were not responded to.

    Close to trains, eateries and safe environment.
    Parking was available which is always a bonus especially so close to the city.
    It was very clean and had all the amenities you require.

    What could be improved: The refrigerator wasn't in working order, even though it was a simple thing to fix. A bit disappointing.
    We were requested to take out the garbage which is fine but there were no garbage bags so had to improvise.

    Quaint property, close to cafes and transport. Soundproofing was exceptional, hardly heard aircraft noise despite being near the flight path.
