Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first walked up to Miller’s On Kent, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s right in the thick of Sydney’s CBD and you know how hit-or-miss city hotels can be. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself has this sort of understated elegance that fits perfectly with the Kent Street vibe, and you’re literally a two-minute walk from Wynyard Station, which is ridiculously handy if you’re planning to explore beyond the city center.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to create this calm pocket in the middle of all that Sydney chaos. The lobby doesn’t try too hard – it’s got that relaxed Australian sophistication thing down without being pretentious about it. The rooms are well, they’re exactly what you’d want after a long day wandering around The Rocks or getting lost in the laneways. Nothing too fancy, but everything works properly (thank god, because there’s nothing worse than dodgy hotel Wi-Fi when you’re trying to figure out ferry schedules). The beds are actually comfortable – not just hotel-brochure comfortable – and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which honestly matters more than people admit.
Here’s the thing though – and this is where Miller’s really shines – the staff actually know Sydney. Not just the tourist stuff, but they’ll point you toward that little coffee spot on George Street that locals hit up, or tell you which days to avoid Darling Harbour if you’re not into crowds. The concierge (I think his name was James?) saved me from making the classic mistake of trying to drive to Bondi on a weekend. Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned – Circular Quay is a pleasant ten-minute walk, you can easily duck into the Queen Victoria Building when it’s raining (which it will be, this is Sydney), and there are actual good restaurants within stumbling distance, not just the usual hotel-district tourist traps.
The 8.2 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here a night or two. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but it gets all the important stuff right. You’ll sleep well, the neighborhood feels safe even late at night, and you won’t spend half your vacation budget just getting to the places you actually want to see. Plus – and this might sound weird – but the elevators are fast, which becomes weirdly important when you’re running late for a harbor cruise or trying to make it back for a quick outfit change before dinner.

A fantastic location, view and home away from home right near The Rocks and Circular Quay – Katie from Australia – 7 July 2025 (8/10)
Fantastic location and a lovely homely feel to the property. Even though the house is an easy walk to so many fantastic popular areas of Sydney, it was quiet and felt like a home. We loved all the personal touches like books on all the bookshelves and artworks around the space. Our kids loved the kids books provided. It was a lovely home away from home and so nicely and functionally decorated. The beds and pillows were comfy, there was space to spread out and lovely water views from the front windows and upstairs balcony.
What could be improved: There were only a few small things and we understand they come standard with these heritage houses. Firstly, the stairs are very steep and wouldn’t suit older people or families with younger kids. The bathroom has a shower over an old claw foot bath with shower curtains around it which was a bit tricky to get in to and the shower curtains and bath didn’t feel super clean. There is also a window from the bathroom to an enclosed courtyard which is locked open, meaning morning and evening showers were a bit chilly.Very enjoyable stay, close to all the main attractions – Brian from Australia – 7 July 2025 (9/10)
Location was excellent. Close to The Rocks, Darling Harbour and Circular Quay. Good for family of four. Comfortable beds. Good kitchen facilities.
Great location in a cool Sydney house. – Libby from New Zealand – 19 May 2025 (8/10)
Location location location. Opposite the Langham, sea views on a lovely street. Loved the old pub and restaurants just down the road. The Miller’s point area is cool, the waterfront has been developed recently and has superb dining/running/walking from Darling Harbour to the Opera House.
The house is from 1882 – so authentic! 3 stories, comfortable beds, nice roof terrace and decor.
What could be improved: The steps are many, narrow and steep but that’s a historic home for you. It would not suit older people or small children. For our age group it was fine.Fun to experience a terrace style house in inner Sydney, walkable to harbour highlights and very comfortable beds and li – Kate from Australia – 8 April 2025 (7/10)
The house was in a fabulous location, very comfortable beds and functional kitchen. Cosy lounge and cute deck upstairs. The stairs are extremely steep though and were a bit of a shock to us at first. We did acclimate eventually, but I would not recommend elderly people without steady limbs to stay here because of the two long flights that are necessary to climb to bedrooms and the bathroom.
The claw foot bath is stylish, but also rather dicey to stand up in without taking great care not to slip. Some sort of safety rail would be a good idea I think. We used a hand towel in the bottom of the bath to make it safer. Bear in mind we are all only in our fifties.
The tea bags unsealed and plopped in a bowl on the kitchen bench were stale and unusable and no coffee pods provided despite a coffee machine there… seemed a bit lacking in thoughtful touches.
Also while the house was clean, the stairs were incredibly dusty, top of AC also- felt like a spring clean is in order.
However overall it was a very pleasant stay and perfect size for four cousins to stay and play in Sydney.Sydney is a beautiful city and we enjoyed being located centrally, conveniently located to all amenities. – Pam from Australia – 16 April 2025 (9/10)
