Meriton Suites World Tower, Sydney
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Sydney hotels, and the Meriton Suites World Tower honestly surprised me – in the best way possible. When you first walk into this place on Liverpool Street, you’re immediately hit by how seriously they take the “suites” part of their name. I mean, we’re talking proper apartments here, not just hotel rooms with a mini-fridge shoved in the corner. The kitchen actually has full-sized appliances, and there’s enough counter space to spread out if you’re the type who likes to grab fresh stuff from the markets (Queen Victoria Building is literally a five-minute walk, by the way). The washer and dryer situation is clutch too – honestly, after a few days of Sydney’s summer humidity, you’ll appreciate being able to do laundry without hunting down a laundromat in the CBD.
What really gets me about this place is the location knowledge you develop after staying here. Sure, everyone knows about Darling Harbour and the Opera House, but you’ll discover that World Square shopping center is right downstairs – super handy for those late-night snack runs or when you realize you forgot to pack something essential. The Thai place on Level 2 there? Actually decent, and open later than most CBD spots. You’re also perfectly positioned between Central Station and Circular Quay, which sounds obvious until you’re actually living it and realize you can walk to Central in about eight minutes or catch the light rail right from your front door. The building itself is that distinctive cylindrical tower you’ve probably seen in Sydney skyline photos – it’s pretty cool being inside looking out, especially from the higher floors where you get these sweeping harbor glimpses between other buildings.
The thing that really sold me on this place was how it handles the practical stuff that other hotels somehow mess up. Check-in was smooth (they’ve got multiple elevators, so you’re not waiting forever with your luggage), and the soundproofing is surprisingly good considering you’re smack in the middle of the CBD. I mean, you’ll hear some street noise if you’re on the lower floors facing Liverpool Street, but nothing that’ll keep you awake – and honestly, that’s part of the Sydney experience anyway. The housekeeping team actually knows what they’re doing with apartment-style layouts, and the concierge desk genuinely knows the neighborhood instead of just handing you generic tourist brochures. Parking is available in the building, which is a massive relief if you’re driving in Sydney – though fair warning, it’s not cheap, but then again, nothing in the CBD is. The fitness center and pool area up top are solid, nothing fancy but totally functional, and the views from up there are pretty spectacular, especially around sunset when the harbor starts lighting up.
Guests are required to show a photo ID and credit card at check-in.
