You know what really struck me about Meriton Suites Waterloo? The moment I walked into the lobby, it felt like I’d stepped into one of those sleek apartment buildings you see in design magazines – which, honestly, makes sense since this place is more like luxury serviced apartments than a traditional hotel. The whole setup on Danks Street puts you right in the heart of what’s become one of Sydney’s most interesting neighborhoods, and I mean that in the best way possible.
The suites themselves are genuinely spacious – not just “hotel spacious” where they call a closet a room, but actually roomy with proper kitchens that you’d want to cook in. I was there during a pretty busy period in March, and the soundproofing was solid enough that I barely heard the construction happening nearby (and trust me, there’s always construction happening somewhere in Waterloo these days). The views from the upper floors are pretty spectacular too, especially if you score one facing toward the city – you can actually see the CBD skyline without craning your neck. What I really appreciated was how the apartment-style layout made longer stays feel natural rather than cramped, which is perfect since a lot of people use this place for extended business trips or relocations.
Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to Green Square station in about ten minutes, or if you’re feeling ambitious, it’s a decent stroll into the city through some of Sydney’s newer developments. The area around Danks Street has really come alive in recent years – there’s this great little coffee scene developing, and you’re close enough to Alexandria that you can hit up places like The Grounds without it being a whole expedition. Parking can be a bit of a juggling act during peak times (the garage fills up faster than you’d expect), but the trade-off is that you’re genuinely well-connected to pretty much everywhere you’d want to go. I’d say the 8.3 rating feels about right – it’s definitely hitting above average in most areas, though sometimes the service can feel a bit impersonal compared to smaller boutique places. But honestly, if you want modern, clean, and functional with enough space to actually live rather than just sleep, this place delivers on that promise better than most.
