Meriton Suites Pitt Street, Sydney
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Sydney CBD, and honestly? The Meriton Suites on Pitt Street surprised me. You know how some hotels feel like they’re trying too hard to be fancy – well, this one actually pulls it off without being pretentious about it. The moment you walk in, there’s this clean, modern vibe that doesn’t scream “corporate hotel.” The lobby’s got these high ceilings and actually decent lighting (you’d be amazed how many places get that wrong), and the staff at check-in were genuinely helpful, not just going through the motions.
What really sold me on this place was the suite itself – I mean, it’s not just a room with a kitchenette shoved in the corner. The space feels properly designed, like someone actually thought about how people live. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you want to grab groceries from the Woolworths down on George Street instead of paying hotel restaurant prices every night. And the bedroom? The bed’s one of those where you actually sleep well, not just okay. The windows are thick enough that you don’t get woken up by the garbage trucks at 5 AM, which is honestly a miracle given you’re right in the thick of everything. From the higher floors, you get these glimpses of Sydney Harbour that make you feel like you’re getting away with something.
The location’s the real winner here though – you’re literally a three-minute walk from Town Hall station, and Hyde Park’s right there when you need to escape the city chaos for a bit. Queen Victoria Building is practically next door, and if you’re into the whole Darling Harbour scene, it’s an easy stroll. I found myself walking everywhere instead of dealing with taxis, which saved me a fortune. The building itself sits right in that sweet spot where you’re close to everything but not drowning in tourist crowds like you would be closer to Circular Quay. There’s a decent coffee place on the ground floor of the building next door (the barista actually knows what he’s doing), and honestly, that little convenience made my mornings so much better. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the elevators can be a bit slow during peak times – but that’s pretty standard for tall buildings in the city. For a five-star place, it delivers without making you feel like you’re paying for a bunch of stuff you don’t need.
Guests are required to show a photo ID and credit card at check-in.
