Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of Sydney hotels, but Meriton Suites Mascot Central actually surprised me – and not just because it’s tucked away on Jackson Drive where you wouldn’t expect to find something this polished. The building itself is one of those sleek modern towers that seems to catch the light differently depending on the time of day, and honestly, walking into the lobby feels like stepping into a friend’s very well-appointed apartment rather than a typical hotel.
What really got me was how spacious everything felt. I mean, we’re talking proper suites here, not those cramped hotel rooms where you’re practically climbing over your suitcase to get to the bathroom. The kitchen – yeah, there’s an actual kitchen with a full-sized fridge – meant I could grab groceries from the Woolworths down the road and actually cook breakfast instead of paying $30 for hotel eggs benedict. The washing machine and dryer in each suite is one of those things you don’t realize you need until you’re halfway through a two-week trip with dirty clothes piling up. From my window on the 12th floor, I could see planes lazily approaching Sydney Airport (which is literally a five-minute drive away), but surprisingly, the soundproofing kept things quiet enough that I barely noticed them after the first night.
The location is sort of perfect if you know Sydney well – you’re close enough to the airport that early morning flights don’t require a 5 AM taxi ride, but you’re also connected to the city by train in about 15 minutes. The Green Square area has really come alive in recent years, and there’s this whole strip of cafes and restaurants along Botany Road that most tourists never discover. I found myself walking there most evenings instead of heading into the CBD. The staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood too – the concierge told me about a Vietnamese place around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being better than half the restaurants in Chinatown. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that hovering-around-the-desk-at-3 PM nonsense, and the parking garage (which you actually need to book separately, just so you know) made having a rental car painless. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a few days and feel like you’re living in Sydney rather than just passing through – which, let’s be honest, is pretty rare for a hotel this close to an airport.
Guests are required to show a photo ID and credit card at check-in.
