Meriton Suites Church Street, Parramatta
You know what struck me first about Meriton Suites on Church Street? The entrance – it’s actually tucked away on Dirrabarri Lane, not the main drag, which honestly makes it feel more exclusive than it probably is. I mean, you walk past all the usual Parramatta hustle and bustle, then slip into this quiet side street where suddenly everything feels more upscale. The lobby’s got that sleek apartment-hotel vibe going on, all modern lines and marble, but it doesn’t feel cold like some of these places do.
The suites themselves are genuinely spacious – and I’m not just saying that because I’m used to cramped Sydney hotel rooms. We’re talking proper apartments here with full kitchens, separate bedrooms, and living areas where you can actually spread out. The kitchens are surprisingly well-equipped too; I actually cooked breakfast a couple mornings instead of wandering around looking for decent coffee (though honestly, you’re a two-minute walk from some great cafes on Church Street if you can’t be bothered). The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that hotel-bed backache, and the blackout curtains actually work – crucial when you’re trying to sleep in past the early morning Parramatta traffic. What really sold me was the laundry setup in each room; sounds boring, but when you’re staying more than a couple nights, it’s a game-changer.
Location-wise, this place is sort of perfectly positioned without being right in the thick of everything. You’re close enough to walk to Westfield Parramatta when you need something, and the train station’s maybe a seven-minute walk – super handy for getting into the city or out to other parts of Sydney. But here’s the thing locals know: you’re also walking distance to some genuinely good restaurants that aren’t just chain places. The whole Church Street precinct has really come alive in the past few years, and staying here puts you right in the middle of it without the noise of being directly on the main street. Parking’s included too, which – let’s be real – is worth its weight in gold around here. The staff seem to actually know the area well; they pointed me toward this little Vietnamese place around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option in Parramatta, but when you factor in the space, the location, and not having to eat out for every meal, it actually makes sense. Plus, the whole building feels well-maintained and secure, which matters when you’re coming and going at odd hours.
