Meriton Suites Campbell Street, Sydney
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Meriton Suites on Campbell Street, I wasn’t expecting much. The building itself is pretty standard modern Sydney apartment-style, but once you’re inside, it’s actually quite impressive. The lobby has this clean, contemporary feel without being sterile, and the staff genuinely seem to know what they’re doing. I mean, check-in was smooth even during what felt like peak tourist season, which is saying something for Sydney CBD.
What really sold me on this place is the suites themselves – and I’m talking proper suites, not those “junior suite” things that are basically just a room with a couch shoved in the corner. You get a full kitchen with decent appliances (the dishwasher actually works, thank god), separate living area with a proper dining table, and the bedroom feels like its own space. The washing machine and dryer tucked away in the bathroom area is honestly a game-changer if you’re staying more than a few days. I know it sounds boring, but when you’re dealing with Sydney’s unpredictable weather and you’ve got wet clothes from a sudden downpour, you’ll appreciate it. The views vary depending on which side you’re on – I got lucky with a partial harbour glimpse, though some rooms face the city buildings which isn’t terrible either, especially at night when everything lights up.
Location-wise, you’re right in the thick of things without being overwhelmed by it. Campbell Street is actually pretty quiet for CBD standards, but you’re literally a two-minute walk to Circular Quay – I timed it because I’m that kind of person. The Opera House and Harbour Bridge are right there, obviously, but what I really loved was being so close to the Royal Botanic Gardens. Early morning walks there before the crowds hit became my routine. You’ve got the train station practically next door, which makes getting to places like Bondi or Manly ridiculously easy. And honestly, the restaurant scene around here is solid – there’s this little Italian place on Young Street that locals actually go to, not just tourists. The weekend markets at Circular Quay are worth checking out too, though they can get pretty hectic.
The only minor thing I’d mention is that being so central, you do get some city noise – not terrible, but if you’re sensitive to sound, maybe request a higher floor away from the street side. Parking is available but it’s valet only, which some people find annoying. The pool area is decent but small, so don’t expect resort-style lounging. But really, when you’re staying in the heart of Sydney with this much space and actual amenities that work, these are pretty minor trade-offs. I’d definitely stay here again, especially for longer visits where having that kitchen and laundry setup makes you feel less like a tourist and more like you’re actually living in the city for a bit.
