Hotel Description

You know what? The Manly Bunkhouse totally caught me off guard. I walked up to 35 Pine Street expecting your typical backpacker crash pad, but this place actually has some character to it. It’s tucked away from the main Corso madness – which honestly is a blessing because you can stumble back from the beach without fighting through crowds of tourists clutching their fish and chips.

The building itself has this sort of old-school Aussie charm that you don’t see much anymore in Manly. I mean, it’s not fancy or anything, but there’s something authentic about it that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than some sterile chain hotel. The staff genuinely seem to know what they’re doing too – check-in was smooth, and they actually gave me useful local tips instead of just handing over a generic tourist map. The rooms are clean and functional (though if you’re expecting luxury at these prices, well, maybe adjust those expectations a bit). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re still close enough to walk to the ferry wharf in about ten minutes.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place – the location is absolutely perfect for exploring the Northern Beaches properly. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Manly Beach, but more importantly, you’re positioned right for hitting up the coastal walk to Shelly Beach in the morning before it gets crowded. The locals know that early morning stretch is pure magic, and staying here means you can actually make it happen without some epic commute from the city. Plus, there’s this great little coffee spot just around the corner on Belgrave Street that most tourists never find – the kind of place where the barista remembers your order after two days. Parking can be a bit tricky on weekends (street parking fills up fast), but during the week it’s totally manageable. The ferry back to Circular Quay runs regularly, so you’re not stuck in Manly if you want to explore Sydney proper, though honestly, I found myself wanting to stay put more often than not. The whole vibe here just works – it’s relaxed without being lazy, social without being chaotic, and priced reasonably enough that you don’t feel guilty about extending your stay when the surf’s up.

  • Great stay. Great location. – Maya from Australia – 16 June 2024 (9/10)

We had a private cabin which included kettle, tea, coffee, crockery, air-conditioning, TV, lockable lockers, ensuite. Access to Bunkhouse kitchen. Very comfortable. Angus welcomed us. Very courteous and friendly. Escorted us to our cabin. Location only 15 minutes walk back to Manly Corso. Pleasant walk via beachfront or local streets. Would recommend the Manly Bunkhouse.
