Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Macquarie Park Corporate Apartments? It’s actually in a pretty quiet residential pocket of Mooltan Avenue – not some busy main road where you’re dealing with traffic all night. I mean, sure, it’s a 3-star place so you’re not getting marble lobbies or anything fancy, but honestly, that’s kind of the point here.

The whole setup feels more like staying in a friend’s apartment than a hotel, which makes sense given the name. Most guests seem to be business travelers who need somewhere to crash for a week or two, not tourists doing the Opera House circuit. The apartments themselves are properly spacious – I’m talking actual living rooms where you can spread out your laptop and work, not those cramped hotel rooms where the desk is basically a shelf. Kitchen facilities are decent too, though don’t expect gourmet cooking equipment. There’s a Woolworths about a 10-minute walk away if you want to grab groceries, and honestly, after eating out every night for work trips, having the option to make a simple breakfast is pretty refreshing.

Location-wise, you’re really close to Macquarie University and the business parks around here – probably why it gets solid ratings from the corporate crowd. The train station’s walkable, maybe 15 minutes if you don’t mind the stroll, though most people seem to drive or catch the bus that runs along Herring Road. Parking was surprisingly easy when I stayed – they’ve got their own spots, which anyone who’s tried to find street parking in Sydney will appreciate. The area gets pretty quiet after business hours, which is either perfect if you want to actually sleep, or slightly boring if you’re looking for nightlife. There’s a decent Thai place and a pub within walking distance, but this definitely isn’t Surry Hills or anything like that.

What I really liked was how the staff actually seemed to know what they were doing – check-in was smooth, they had proper local recommendations (not just the touristy stuff), and when the wifi acted up one evening, they sorted it out pretty quickly. The 7.7 rating feels about right to me – it’s not going to blow you away, but it does what it says on the tin without any nasty surprises. The whole place feels well-maintained rather than flash, if that makes sense. You’ll find better restaurants and trendier bars elsewhere in Sydney, but if you need a comfortable base that’s actually affordable and you’re spending most of your time in the north shore area anyway, this works really well.

    Good, clean, quiet, close to transport, shops

    What could be improved: When booking we were given impression from Booking.com and the apartments that secure and safe Parking was available for all units. However, upon checking in we found that for our selected single bedroom unit there was no dedicated parking – only visitor bays. We selected this site for safety and security for 22yr old daughter on work placement and she then often had to park in un-safe streets and 15min walk from the accommodation. Very disappointed in this aspect for the high price!

    We had a few issued, but they were all taken car of quickly. compliments to the KULA team

    What could be improved: The promised email for pre-arrival check-in didn't arrive and was made available only after we followed up by phone. Registering while having to sit in the hot sun on a mobile phone wasn't easy. Also the information for check-out arrive only 1 (ONE) day late. Maybe the scheduling service / computer program needs to be fine-tuned.

    Clean, very comfortable and spacious.

    What could be improved: Finding the right carpark, the right main entrance to the apartment, and even the right lift were very tricky. Clearer instructions to locate them would be great. Basement carpark should have more and better signage to assist visitors.
