I’ll be honest – when I first saw the address on Boyce Road, I wasn’t expecting much. Maroubra isn’t exactly the Sydney postcard neighborhood most tourists picture, but that’s actually what makes this place such a find. The Luxe Central Studio 4 sits in this quiet residential pocket that’s about a 10-minute walk from the beach, and you know what? It’s got character that those sterile CBD hotels just can’t match.

The studio itself is surprisingly well thought out – I mean, whoever designed this actually understood how people live in small spaces. The kitchen isn’t just for show (you can actually cook a proper meal), and there’s enough storage that you’re not living out of a suitcase for your entire stay. The bed faces away from the street, which is smart because Boyce Road does get some early morning traffic, though nothing that’ll keep you awake at night. What really won me over was the little details – proper blackout curtains, decent water pressure in the shower, and outlets where you actually need them. The kind of stuff that makes you think someone who travels a lot had input on the setup.

Location-wise, this is where it gets interesting. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the Opera House, but you’re genuinely living like a local here. There’s a solid coffee spot about three blocks down toward the beach – the baristas actually remember your order after a couple days. The bus to Randwick is stupidly convenient (hence the name, I guess), and if you’re doing anything at UNSW or the hospitals in that area, you’ll save a fortune on Ubers. Maroubra Beach is right there when you need to clear your head, and it’s the kind of beach where you can actually find a spot to sit, unlike Bondi’s circus. The IGA supermarket is close enough for quick grocery runs, and there’s this little Thai place on the corner that does incredible pad see ew – I probably ate there four times in a week, honestly. Getting into the city takes about 25 minutes on a good day, maybe 40 during peak hour, but there’s something nice about coming back to a real neighborhood instead of a tourist bubble. The whole area has this laid-back vibe that makes you slow down a bit, which is exactly what I needed after dealing with Sydney’s usual intensity.
