You know what surprised me most about this place? Walking up High Street in the CBD, you’d never guess there’s actually a proper two-bedroom apartment tucked away at number 74. I mean, most of the accommodations around here are either cramped hotel rooms or those sterile serviced apartments that feel like corporate housing. But this one – it’s got character.

The location is honestly pretty perfect if you’re planning to explore Sydney on foot. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Wynyard Station, which I discovered after my first morning when I was frantically trying to catch a train to Bondi. The apartment sits right in that sweet spot where you can hear the city humming below but it’s not the chaos you’d expect from being smack in the middle of everything. There’s a decent coffee shop called Campos just around the corner that the locals actually use – not one of those tourist traps – and honestly, their flat white became part of my morning routine. The building itself is one of those converted heritage ones, so you get high ceilings and these gorgeous old windows that let in amazing light, especially in the afternoons.

What really sold me on the place though was how lived-in it felt. The kitchen actually has proper cookware (not those flimsy hotel pans), and there’s a washing machine that doesn’t sound like it’s dying – small things that matter when you’re staying more than a few nights. The bedrooms are genuinely separate spaces, not those awkward studio setups where someone’s always disturbing someone else. I stayed here with my sister last spring, and we could actually have different schedules without driving each other crazy. The main bedroom gets morning sun, which is lovely, though if you’re sensitive to light you might want to mention that. The second bedroom is quieter, facing away from High Street, so it’s perfect for light sleepers. The whole place has this warm, slightly eclectic feel – like someone’s actual apartment that they’ve opened up to travelers, not a sterile rental property.

The 8.2 rating makes sense to me. It’s not perfect – the shower pressure could be better, and the Wi-Fi gets a bit spotty during busy evening hours when everyone in the building is probably streaming something. But those are minor gripes, really. The check-in was smooth (they actually met me at the building, which was refreshing), and when I had a question about the heating system, they responded within an hour. For the price point in this part of Sydney, you’re getting genuine value. I’ve stayed in fancier places that felt cold and impersonal, and I’ve definitely stayed in cheaper places that made me question my life choices. This hits that sweet spot where you feel like you’re living in Sydney, not just visiting it.

    Fantastic location and views across Barangaroo to watch the boats passing. Close to food out lets and the Rocks Markets and Circular Quay. Lovely comfy beds and very clean apartment.

    What could be improved: The only thing that let it down was the bathroom and lack of water pressure in the shower and the only TV is on the wall in the small bedroom. A little odd.

    The best location, everything was in walking distance. I don’t think I could have found a better spot,

    What could be improved: Everything was really good, I don’t think there was anything I didn’t like. I read a review about the property saying that for the price the bathroom should have been upgraded – the bathroom was older but functioned fine. I doubt it could be upgraded as I expect the house is heritage listed. The location makes everything else pale into insignificance.

    Good Location but Some Disappointments

    The location of this accommodation is great, and the decor matches the photos accurately. However, I was a bit disappointed that there was no air conditioning, only fans. Fortunately, the weather during my stay was not too hot, and the cool night breeze helped.

    The biggest issue was the extremely weak water flow in the shower. I communicated this with the host, and while they mentioned arranging for repairs, there was no improvement throughout my 5-night stay. With only one bathroom available, shower time became quite frustrating.
