Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Sydney, but this little gem on Stuart Street really caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. You know how most “sanctuary” named places are just trying too hard? Well, this one actually lives up to it. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of calm that hits you, probably because the place feels more like a thoughtfully designed home than a typical rental property.
What really gets me is how they’ve managed to fit three proper bedrooms into what’s essentially a heritage-style terrace without making it feel cramped. The main bedroom upstairs – honestly, it’s got this amazing light in the mornings, and you can actually hear the kookaburras if you’re up early enough (which, let’s be real, happens more often when you’re on holiday). The other two bedrooms are perfect for families or groups who actually want some privacy from each other. I mean, you’re in Manly, but sometimes you need to escape your travel companions too, right?
The location is what really sold me though. Stuart Street is this perfect sweet spot – you’re about a seven-minute walk to the beach (I timed it because I’m weird like that), but far enough back that you’re not dealing with the weekend crowds stumbling past your window at 2am. There’s a little café called Barefoot Coffee just around the corner that does this incredible flat white, and the IGA is literally two blocks away if you want to actually cook in that surprisingly well-equipped kitchen. Speaking of which, they’ve got proper knives and decent pans – you’d be amazed how rare that is in holiday rentals.
The whole vibe is just… effortless, I guess? Like, the furniture isn’t trying to be Instagram-perfect, but everything works and feels comfortable. The couch is actually something you’d want to sink into after a day at the beach, and there’s proper blackout curtains if you’re one of those people who needs complete darkness to sleep. The bathroom situation is solid too – good water pressure, which matters more than people admit, and enough space that you’re not fighting over mirror time.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Manly can be pretty hectic during summer, but this little pocket of Stuart Street just settles down beautifully once the sun goes down. You’ll hear the occasional car, sure, but nothing that’ll keep you awake. And honestly, after spending days on the beach or walking the coastal track to Spit Bridge, you’ll probably be tired enough that it won’t matter anyway.
The only minor thing – and this is really nitpicking – is that parking can be a bit tricky if you’ve got a car. It’s street parking, and weekends can get competitive. But honestly, once you’re here, you probably won’t need the car much anyway. The ferry to Circular Quay is right there, and most of what you’d want in Manly is walkable.
This place just works. It’s got that 9.1 rating for good reason – it delivers exactly what it promises without any of the usual holiday rental surprises. Sometimes the best compliment you can give a place is that it just gets out of your way and lets you enjoy where you are.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
