You know what struck me first about the Kimpton Margot? Walking up to it on Pitt Street, you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking – it’s got this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “fancy hotel” from the sidewalk. But once you step inside, honestly, it’s like entering someone’s incredibly stylish apartment rather than a typical corporate hotel lobby. The design feels distinctly Australian without being cheesy about it, with these warm timber accents and artwork that actually tells a story about Sydney.

The location is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re right in the thick of the CBD but on a stretch of Pitt Street that doesn’t get the crazy foot traffic of the main shopping strips. I mean, you can walk to Circular Quay in about ten minutes, and Martin Place is literally around the corner, but you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of tourists and street performers outside your window. The rooms themselves have this lovely quiet quality – something about the way they’ve designed the building keeps most of the city noise at bay. I stayed on the seventh floor and slept like a baby, which is saying something for someone who usually tosses and turns in new places.

What really sets this place apart is how the staff actually seem to know Sydney, not just the hotel. When I asked about breakfast spots (because honestly, hotel breakfast can get old), the concierge didn’t just rattle off the usual suspects – he sent me to this little laneway café that locals frequent, complete with directions that included “turn left at the building with the street art mural.” The rooms have these thoughtful touches too, like proper coffee (not just instant), and the bathroom amenities that don’t make you miss your own products. The fitness center is small but well-equipped, and there’s something refreshing about a hotel pool area that doesn’t feel like a cruise ship deck. Check-in was smooth – they had my room ready early without me even asking, which saved my jet-lagged self from wandering around Sydney with luggage. If you’re the type who appreciates hotels that feel more like a local experience than a international chain cookie-cutter situation, this place gets it right.

  Beautiful place and Location! There is a metro station, within a minute and the tram passes half a block from it, so it was very easy to get to Circular Quay, less than 10min, where we spend most of the time, (Sydney Opera, Ferry, The Rocks…)

  Staff were all extremely friendly/professional and went out of their way to make us feel really welcome.
