InterContinental Sydney, an IHG Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the InterContinental Sydney, an IHG Hotel feels like stepping into the heart of the city itself — and honestly, that’s exactly what you’re doing. This five-star property sits right at the corner of Phillip and Bridge Streets, which means you’re literally in the thick of Sydney’s Central Business District. The lobby has that polished luxury feel you’d expect, but what really struck me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the city inside and out. They’re not just checking you in — they’re setting you up to actually experience Sydney properly.
The Location Advantage
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You can walk to Circular Quay in about five minutes, which means the Opera House and Harbour Bridge are right there. I mean, couples absolutely love this location — they’ve rated it 9.7 out of 10, and I get why. You’re close enough to everything that matters, but you’re not stuck in some touristy bubble. The business district actually quiets down in the evenings, so you get this interesting mix of urban energy during the day and a more relaxed vibe at night.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had these floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the city beautifully — some rooms even give you harbor glimpses if you’re lucky. But honestly, what impressed me most was the bed. I’m usually pretty skeptical when hotels boast about their bedding, but this place has earned its reputation for incredibly comfortable beds. The linens feel substantial, and there’s something about the mattress that just works. The marble bathroom feels appropriately luxurious without being over the top, and the rainfall shower actually has proper water pressure.
Dining and Amenities
Breakfast here is actually worth getting up for, which says something. They’ve got everything covered — continental options, full English breakfast, plus vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices. The buffet setup is well-organized, and the quality is consistently good. The restaurant spaces feel sophisticated but not stuffy, and the service moves at just the right pace. There’s also parking available right at the hotel, which is honestly a relief in this part of the city where finding a spot can be a nightmare.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances luxury with practicality. You’re getting that premium InterContinental experience — the attentive service, the quality amenities, the polished details — but you’re also in a position to actually enjoy Sydney without spending half your day getting around. The spa facilities are perfect for unwinding after walking around the city all day, and the concierge team actually knows their stuff about local recommendations. It’s the kind of place where business travelers feel at home, but couples on holiday (who clearly adore the location) find it romantic enough for a special trip.

Best place I've ever been (get hotel discount W/app: 86 17861169200) – James from France (9/10)
I like the style of rooms, and lots of food.
Great location close to shopping, dining, Sydney Bridge and Opera House. – Carolyn from United States of America (9/10)
My stay was on the 27th floor with a partial view of the river. The bed was king size and very comfortable. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean. Breakfast buffet offered a variety of options including vegetables, meats, breads, pasta, ethnic foods, etc. There was made to order egg or omelettes available. The Intercontinental is in close proximity/walking distance to the waterfront, shopping, dining and the Opera House. This hotel will not disappoint you.
Excellent 5 Star luxury Hotel – Daniel from Australia (9/10)
I loved the room, the view from the room of darling harbour and the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge. Its nice to come back "home" for a week after living in Brisbane for the past 17 years…

It was my second time staying here, and it delivers every time. You truly get luxury with the price – comfy bed, great amenities, and a beautiful space from the lobby, bar, to the rooms. Love this place. The rooftop is absolutely stunning with delish espresso martinis.

5 Star accommodation in the heart of Sydney – Lynda from Ireland (9/10)
Got a room with the East harbour view. Room was cleaned everyday even when I didn’t leave out the clean my room sign. Bed was very comfortable. Ordered room service at 2am and got it within minutes. Location was excellent, walking distance to the Sydney Harbour, opera house and lots of shops and restaurants. The concierge was very helpful in giving info on things to do in the local area. Worth the money!
Exceptional – Joseph from Australia (9/10)

Special birthday trip made even more special by attentive staff, a beautiful suite and a great location. – Kathryn from Australia (9/10)
Beautiful, central hotel. We booked the bridge suite which had amazing views and was spacious. We were also able to request better pillows. They provided some champagne and chocolate for my husband’s birthday.
It was very romantic and the service was impeccible – Anstee from Australia (9/10)
We were pleasantly surprised to have our room upgraded on arrival. The bed was massive and very comfy. Great location close to the ferry and walking distance to many bars and restaurants.
