ibis Sydney World Square Overview

Look, I’ll be straight with you about the ibis Sydney World Square – it’s one of those places that just makes sense when you’re visiting Sydney. You know what I mean? Sometimes you find a hotel that doesn’t try to be fancy but gets all the important stuff right, and that’s exactly what this place does.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to actually experience Sydney rather than just look at it from some tourist bubble. It’s right on Pitt Street, which means you’re basically in the thick of everything – I mean, you can walk to Circular Quay in about fifteen minutes, and the whole CBD spreads out around you. What I really love is that you’re close enough to the tourist spots but also right where actual Sydney happens. There’s this great little coffee place just around the corner (because, let’s face it, Sydney takes its coffee seriously), and you’ll find yourself stumbling into those hidden laneways with street art that somehow never make it into the guidebooks. The World Square shopping center is literally next door, which is super handy when you realize you forgot to pack something important – been there, done that.

The hotel itself has that clean, no-nonsense ibis vibe that I’ve come to appreciate. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Sydney CBD, after all), but they’re cleverly designed and honestly, you’re not going to spend much time in there anyway. The beds are actually comfortable – not just hotel-marketing comfortable, but genuinely good sleep comfortable. I stayed there during a particularly busy conference week and the soundproofing was surprisingly decent considering you’re right in the city center. The staff at check-in were pretty efficient, which I appreciated after a long flight. One thing though – if you’re driving, parking in this area can be a bit of a nightmare, so maybe factor that into your planning. The public transport connections are excellent though, so you might not even need a car.

What really won me over was how the hotel sits right in that sweet spot between Chinatown and the main business district. You’ll hear multiple languages walking down the street, smell amazing food from about six different cultures, and there’s this energy that feels authentically Sydney. During the day, it’s all business people and tourists, but in the evening the area transforms into this vibrant dining scene. The hotel’s 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the Shangri-La, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. For a three-star place, it punches above its weight, especially considering the location. I mean, you’re paying Sydney CBD prices either way, so you might as well be where the action is, right?

Reviews of ibis Sydney World Square

  • Good City Stay – Stephanee from Australia – 13 July 2025 (7/10)

Great location. Conveniently located to shops, transport and great restaurants. Very comfortable bed. Room was fresh and clean. Carpet appears new with fresh paint and renovated bathroom. Lovely showerhead.
Room had a good amount of storage with a small closet for a few coats. A space for one large suitcase with desk.
Staff gave us fresh towels each day even though we hung them up.
$12 cocktails available from 3pm to 11pm in lobby bar.
Buffet breakfast available for $20 if you pre-book or $30 on the day. (We diid not try)

What could be improved: Was a little noisy two out of four mornings of our stay with some sort of repair work. I don't think it was renovation as we weren't told anything on check in.
Bathroom vanity would be better if there was a draw.
Bathroom is a little small but big enough for one. Small amount of water would come out of the shower onto the tiles but would dry fairly quickly.
    Needs hand towels in bathroom.

  • Superb – Jane from United Kingdom – 9 July 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: One of the beds was missing a leg which made it unstable to sit on. It was fine for sleeping.

  • Friendly staff. Ideal hotel for a solo traveller. Train from airport was quick, then short 10 minute walk to hotel throu – Andrew from Australia – 8 July 2025 (9/10)

Location – close to all the shops and bustling restaurants and eateries. Convenient esp if arriving even at night.

What could be improved: Can be noisy – ask for a quiet room.

Tv is lopsided, difficult to watch

Shower drain gets blocked (my pet hate), cleaning staff should check this regularly

  • Very good – Worawat from Australia – 6 July 2025 (8/10)

    Location

  • Great budget hotel in a central location – Natalie from Australia – 5 July 2025 (8/10)

Clean room, modern bathroom & shower on level 4 (queen room)
    Comfy bed & pillows
    Great location

What could be improved: a little noisy outside late in the evening from people & music but it's in a busy area near lots of nightlife so I expected it, bring headphones if you're a light sleeper

  • Good location AC system needs improvement – Sinead from Australia – 28 June 2025 (7/10)

Location was great close to train stations and world square, accomodating staff 🙂

What could be improved: The air conditioning system. You could only turn the system on/ off and the speed of the fan. If you’re paying for a room you should have independent control of the temperature. Every individual has different preferences and you shouldn’t have to talk to a member of staff if you’re wanting to change the temperature of your room. I have never experienced this in a hotel before and I fly all around the country as cabin crew. That was one big disappointment as I was unable to sleep comfortably before a meeting the next morning of my stay, as I kept having to contact reception staff who were lovely but the AC kept switching off after requests and misunderstanding of the requested temperature.

  • Good place to visit Sydney, only the breakfast could be better quality and variety for the price – Valentina from Germany – 27 June 2025 (7/10)

Position, staff, size of the room

What could be improved: Breakfast, air conditioning

  • Superb – Carlo from Italy – 23 June 2025 (9/10)

Good location close to public transport and to attractions, great staff, clean place

  • Very good value for money. Perfectly adequate for a couple of nights travel for work. – Natalie from Australia – 20 June 2025 (8/10)

    Clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: Air conditioning was remotely set to 28 degrees on cooling mode. Had to be changed by reception which was easily done but seemed unusual.

  • Great location, lovely staff and the downstairs cocktails are great – Megan from Australia – 17 June 2025 (7/10)

    Great location and friendly staff

What could be improved: Shower leaked and the heater unit was very old and didn’t do much
