Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about the ibis budget Sydney East – it’s one of those places that does exactly what it says on the tin, and honestly, that’s not a bad thing at all. The moment you walk into the lobby on William Street, you know you’re getting no-frills accommodation that’s been thought through pretty well. The staff at check-in were actually helpful (not just going through the motions), and the whole process was refreshingly quick – none of that drawn-out welcome spiel you get at fancier places.

The location is what really makes this place work, though. You’re right in Darlinghurst, which means you can walk to Oxford Street in about three minutes, and Kings Cross – well, let’s just say it’s close enough if that’s your scene. What I really appreciated was being able to stroll down to Hyde Park Barracks or catch the train from Museum Station without dealing with city traffic. The rooms are small, sure, but they’re designed smart. Everything you need is there – decent shower pressure (which, you know what, matters more than thread count), air conditioning that actually works, and surprisingly good blackout curtains. The bed was firmer than I expected, which was perfect after walking around Sydney all day.

Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re not paying for marble bathrooms or a concierge who knows your name. You’re paying for a clean, comfortable base that lets you spend your money on the city instead of your pillow. The 7.2 rating makes sense because it delivers on its promises without trying to be something it’s not. I mean, the breakfast is pretty basic, but there’s a decent café literally next door, and honestly, why would you eat hotel breakfast when you’re in Sydney? The street can get a bit noisy on weekend nights – William Street isn’t exactly a quiet suburban lane – but nothing a pair of earplugs can’t handle. If you’re the type who needs a bathtub to soak in or expects turndown service, this isn’t your place. But if you want somewhere central, clean, and reasonably priced where you can crash between exploring the city, it’s actually a solid choice.

The motel was just great, we had all we needed for an overnight stay in sydney. Great position in the city, 5 minutes walk from kings cross near everything you need.clean, safe and tidy !

What could be improved: All was good for us.

  • Clean, great location but lots of noise issues – Natalie from Australia – 15 May 2025 (6/10)

I love that the rooms are clean, the desk is staffed 24 hours and it’s super easy to check in and out. I’ve been here multiple times and the rooms can sometimes vary greatly in size and usually have a good amount of floor space.

What could be improved: The bathrooms are admittedly difficult to navigate because of their small size, and unfortunately this time I visited the noise through the window of the passing traffic was terrible. Also the workers upgrading the aircon system were drilling in the room right next to mine at 8.30am or earlier every day I was there which was an unpleasant way to wake up.

  • Cheap and cheerful – Deb from Australia – 21 April 2025 (8/10)

Bus stop straight outside, 3 stops to the city. Bed comfortable. Clean. Cheap.

What could be improved: Breakfast was basic but ok

  • Happy regular customer – David from Australia – 7 April 2025 (8/10)

    Allowed early check in

  • Comfortable for short stays only. – Amanda from Australia – 4 April 2025 (7/10)

    Budget friendly for short stays

What could be improved: Set up of bathroom. The shower head is not right for compact bathroom. Should have a hand held shower that's smaller. The water goes everywhere with current set up.
